Calcification of the gallbladder wall (porcelain gallbladder) is rare. Its appearance is quite characteristic on plain films, ultrasonography and computed tomography. Sporadic cases of cholecystitis have been described in porcelain gallbladders. Enterobiliary fistula may complicate acute or chronic cholecystitis in non-calcified gallbladder. We report a unusual case of acute cholecystitis with cholecystoduodenal fistula in a porcelain gallbladder.

BACKGROUND AND METHODS: Biliary-colonic fistulas are a known, but unusual, complication of gallstone disease. Fistulas occurring after cholecystectomy between cystic duct stump (CDS) and the colon are extremely rare; only two cases have been previously reported in the literature. We report a third case, and discuss the diagnostic work-up and management of this entity.
RESULTS: Biliary-colonic fistulas usually present with biliary and septic complications. ERCP and barium enema play an important diagnostic role. Treatment is mainly surgical, with division of the fistula and excision of the CDS

A rare case of sigmoido-vesical fistula manifested clinically by dysuria and haematuria is presented. The diagnostic difficulties caused by incorrect sequence of image diagnostics is emphasized.

The colo-uterine fistula is a rare complication of diverticular disease of the colon; the literature review has shown only few well studied cases. The fistula, among the complications of the sigma diverticulitis, is 20% of the observed cases; generally, the bladder is the most involved organ, but also the skin or gut can be interested. If we consider the aetiology of the colo=uterine fistula of the observed case, the presence of the sigma locked stenosis with an endocolic pressure increase, associated with a peridiverticulitis condition, seems to have a relevant rule. The clinical symptomatolo

Genital fistulas that complicate diverticular disease of the sigmoid colon may no longer be considered esoteric, or even rare phenomena. The vast majority of such lesions present with a foul, often fecal, sometimes purulent and occasionally blood-tinged, vaginal discharge for which patients customarily first seek relief from their gynecologists. Despite this fact, the topic is not mentioned in a single American textbook of gynecology. It is the purpose of this report to review the pertinent literature and to include the authors' experience with 13 additional cases in order to bring this topic

Gastrocolic fistula in primary non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) of the stomach is rare; in a review of the literature we found only four cases, all in association with disseminated (stage IV) disease. We describe the first case of a gastrocolic fistula in a patient with stage IE lymphoma. The diagnosis was suggested by feculent vomiting, and the fistula was located using barium enema and CT scan. Therapy consisted of local resection followed by combination chemotherapy.

In this study, a case of appendicovesical fistula is introduced, a really uncommon complication of acute appendicitis. This special case joins the other 102 cases which have already been described in the international literature. Due to the mild and ambiguous symptomatology, the diagnosis of this kind of fistula is difficult to be confirmed, although a serious suspicion of a vesicointestinal communication does exist. Exploratory laparotomy is usually diagnostic and leads to decisive therapy. A brief review of this clinical entity is also included.

Crohn's disease is a rare cause of gastrocolic and duodenocolic fistulas. Only 83 examples (27 gastric, 52 duodenal, four both) have been described. Weight loss, abdominal pain, and diarrhea are common features but fail to distinguish a fistula from active inflammatory bowel disease. Fecal vomiting is pathognomic but is present in one third of gastrocolic and only 2% of duodenocolic fistulas. Diagnosis is most readily made by contrast radiography, with barium enema being more sensitive than barium meal. Although several gastrocolic fistulas have been successfully treated with long-term 6-merca

Diagnostic verification of vesicoenteric fistulae is necessary in order to establish the indication for surgical therapy, but this is frequently difficult. This is because uroradiological and endoscopic methods are unreliable and the symptoms are often nonspecific. The Bourne test is a simple noninvasive screening method. If necessary, it can be supplemented by computer tomography. The problems are discussed with reference to a case report.

Description of one case of spontaneous fistulization between a renal calix and a descending colon, secondary to lithiasic pyonephrosis. Diagnosis was carried out by means of ascending pyelography without it being clinically suspected. Treatment is surgical, combining nephrectomy, fistula resection and closure of the colic gap. Etiology, favouring factors, diagnosis and treatment are explained.

A new case of appendicovesical fistula is reported. A hundred cases of such fistula are described in the literature. Usually the origin is appendicitis. Cecal diverticulitis, cystadenocarcinoma or carcinoid tumours of appendix are other less common causes. In one case, association with neuroma of appendix is found. We report a case of appendicovesical fistula caused by papillo-villous adenoma of appendix. In this case, echography and cystoscopy were helpful in management of diagnosis and planning for the therapeutic approach. Only two other cases of benign tumour of appendix forming fistula ar

The paper is concerned with analysis of the results of x-ray examination of 78 patients with enterocutaneous fistulas of various etiology and site. The authors have shown the characteristic features of x-ray examination of patients in whom the fistulas were at the acute phase of their development. They have also defined the diagnostic value of the employed methods and their efficacy for the diagnosis not only of fistulas but also of related complications (inflammatory infiltrates and abscesses of the abdominal cavity, fatty phlegmon, purulent "fillings", complicated fistulas, etc.).
