VITAMIN D AND INJURIES IN DANCERS: A SYSTEMATIC REVIEW.

Vitamin D is involved in many different functions in the human body. Despite the well-known benefits of vitamin D and increasing trends of testing and supplementation, there is still a high prevalence of vitamin D deficiency worldwide, present in the general but also in the highly-active population such as athletes and dancers. Dancers are at a higher risk of vitamin D deficiency due to their long working hours spent indoors, without exposure to sunlight. The high level of workload and physical demands also put dancers at a high risk of injuries. The aim of this review was to systematically an

RECENT FINDINGS: A systematic search for peer-reviewed publications in the period 2021-2023 generated 10 original studies and 6 reviews, including one meta-analysis (reporting according to PRISMA and SWiM). Findings showed that DEx was effectively managed by use of psychoeducation and/or PAE. Inclusion of PAE as

Availability and content of clinical guidance for tobacco use and dependence treatment - United States, 2000-2019.

Evidence-based treatments for tobacco use and dependence can increase cessation success but remain underutilized. Health professional societies and voluntary health organizations (advising organizations) are uniquely positioned to influence the delivery of cessation treatments by providing clinical guidance for healthcare providers. This study aimed to review the guidance produced by these organizations for content and consistency with current evidence. Documents discussing healthcare providers' role in treatment of tobacco use and dependence produced by US-based advising organizations between

Aging Adventure Athletes Assess Achievements and Alter Aspirations to Maintain Self-Esteem.

Achievements and capabilities influence the self-esteem of skilled adventure athletes. Self-esteem affects individual mental health. Aging commonly reduces adventure capabilities. To avoid loss in self-esteem, aging adventure athletes are forced to adjust their aspirations. Here, I examine this process using participant observation, ethnographic and autoethnographic approaches. The qualitative data for this analysis are derived from 60 years' experience in outdoor adventure activities, and ∼30,000 person-hours of participant observation. I argue that individuals assess their own capabilities a

METHODS: Original research papers (n = 7413) published in English language peer-reviewed academic journals were obtained by searching four electronic databases PsycINFO, PubMed, Scopus and CINAH

Suicidal behavior in adolescents with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Recently, the prevalence of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) in adolescence is higher than the prevalence of PTSD in adult populations. PTSD and suicidality are often found in populations of adolescents presenting with other emotional disorders (particularly mood disorders), traumatic grief, childhood abuse, and/or a family or peer history of suicide. The reasons and developments of the association between PTSD and suicidality in adolescence, however, remain unclear. Core psychobiological changes contributing to PTSD affect emotion, arousal, perception of the self and the world, irritabil

Are reasons for the first use of drugs and family circumstances predictors of future use patterns?

The objective of this study was to investigate whether the level of drug dependence in adolescents can be predicted by any of the following factors: the reasons to which the first use or non-use of drugs is attributed, living arrangements, economic situation, family history of alcohol use, or school delay. 213 Brazilian adolescents were classified according to DSM-III-R criteria as: 71 non-drug-dependent users (Group 1), 71 lightly/moderately dependent users (Group 2), and 71 severely dependent users (Group 3). Logistic regression identified the following predictors of current drug use pattern

Critical Factors Influencing the Uptake of Breastfeeding Support Interventions in Neonatal Intensive Care Units: A Scoping Review.

Background: Breastfeeding is considered the optimal source of nutrition for infants admitted to Neonatal Intensive Care Units (NICUs). Despite these well-documented benefits, establishing and sustaining breastfeeding in NICU settings remains challenging due to inadequate uptake of breastfeeding support measures. This scoping review aimed to examine the evidence on factors influencing the uptake of breastfeeding support practices in NICUs. Methods: The search was undertaken across four electronic databases: PubMed, MEDLINE, CINAHL, and the Cochrane Library. Primary studies published in English

Facilitators and barriers in obtaining informed consent for neonatal research: a scoping review.

UNLABELLED: Obtaining informed consent is crucial in clinical research. This process is particularly challenging in a Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. Parents of critically ill neonates already experience high emotional distress, and soliciting consent for research may exacerbate this burden. As evidence-based medicine is essential to improve neonatal care, clinical trials in neonates require adequate and non-selective enrollment. This study aims to find facilitators and barriers influencing the consent process in neonatal research. A scoping review was conducted using PubMed, Embase, Web of Scie

Perspectives on Concurrent Strength and Endurance Training in Healthy Adult Females: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Both strength and endurance training are included in global exercise recommendations and are the main components of training programs for competitive sports. While an abundance of research has been published regarding concurrent strength and endurance training, only a small portion of this research has been conducted in females or has addressed their unique physiological circumstances (e.g., hormonal profiles related to menstrual cycle phase, menstrual dysfunction, and hormonal contraceptive use), which may influence training responses and adaptations. OBJECTIVE: The aim was to co
