Surgical outcome following breach rhexis.

PURPOSE: Phacoemulsification cataract surgery is the gold standard for lens removal and continuous curvilinear capsulorhexis is one of the important first steps during the procedure. It is also one of the most difficult steps to master and so has a learning curve and capsulorhexis breach is therefore common among trainees. Once there is capsulorhexis breach, the surgeon could continue with the procedure or convert to extracapsular extraction, with each having its advantages and disadvantages. In our unit, the phacoemulsification procedure is usually continued with some modifications, and the r…

Cataract surgery and artificial iris implantation in patient with oculocutaneous albinism: a case report.

We present a case report detailing the successful phacoemulsification surgery with artificial iris implantation for two individuals with oculocutaneous albinism. These women suffered from cataracts, resulting in reduced visual acuity and heightened photophobia due to iris pigmentary epithelium deficiency. The patients underwent phacoemulsification along with prosthetic artificial iris implantation into the posterior chamber. This intervention resulted in improved visual acuity, reduced photophobia and glare, and an overall enhanced quality of life. Our report highlights two cases of successful…

Microincisions in cataract surgery.

UNLABELLED: Improvements in phacoemulsification technology and instrumentation and intraocular lens materials and design have enabled cataract surgery to be performed through incisions smaller than 2.0 mm in external width. This evolution has occurred over time, with new challenges arising at each step of the decrease in incision size. This article reviews the current trend of using increasingly smaller incisions to perform phacoemulsification. Specifically, each facet of phacoemulsification is briefly reviewed from a historical context and then evaluated predominantly from a current perspecti…
