Is fracture resistance of endodontically treated mandibular molars restored with indirect onlay composite restorations influenced by fibre post insertion?

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the influence of post placement on fracture resistance of endodontically treated mandibular molars restored with adhesive overlay restorations. METHODS: Endodontically treated human molars with two- and one-wall cavities either underwent or did not undergo fibre post insertion within composite build-up before cementation of indirect composite onlay restorations. The specimens were thermocycled, exposed to cyclic loading, and submitted to the static fracture resistance test. Fracture loads and mode of failure were evaluated. RESULTS: Statis

Maxillary first molar with an O-shaped root morphology: report of a case.

This case report is to present a maxillary first molar with one O-shaped root, which is an extended C-shaped canal system. Patient with chronic apical periodontitis in maxillary left first molar underwent replantation because of difficulty in negotiating all canals. Periapical radiographs and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) were taken. All roots were connected and fused to one root, and all canals seemed to be connected to form an O-shape. The apical 3 mm of the root were resected and retrograde filled with resin-modified glass ionomer. Intentional replantation as an alternative treatment

Facing the challenges of ceramic veneers.

Ceramic veneers are extremely popular and have been used for many years. In spite of their phenomenal success, they offer numerous challenges during service. In this column, I have identified and discussed several degenerative situations commonly observed, and I have described methods of preventing or reducing the problems. When properly placed, ceramic veneers are among the most beautiful and long-lasting of all dental restorations.

Artificial caries around restorations in roots.

An artificial caries technique was used to produce caries-like lesions in the cavity walls adjacent to microfilled resin restorations with and without dentin bonding agent, and glass-ionomer cement restorations, in the roots of extracted teeth. The lesions had histological characteristics similar to those of natural lesions and to those of the lesions produced by other experimental methods. The zonal pattern of the lesions was examined by means of polarized light microscopy and microradiography, and the depth of the lesions was measured for assessment of the microleakage around the restoration

In vitro comparison of root canal obturation quality in primary molars using lentulo spiral and reverse rotary techniques with zinc oxide eugenol and endoflas: microcomputed tomography analysis.

BACKGROUND: Primary teeth are necessary for mastication, speech, and guiding the eruption of permanent teeth. Dental caries often requires pulpectomy treatment to preserve these teeth. The success of pulpectomy depends on root canal obturation quality. This study aimed to compare the filling quality of zinc oxide-eugenol (ZOE) and Endoflas using lentulo and reverse rotary techniques, assessed by micro-computed tomography. METHODS: An in vitro study was conducted on 32 extracted human primary mandibular second molars. Teeth were randomly divided into four groups (n = 8) based on obturation mat

Comparison of electronic apex locator and simultaneous working length detection methods with radiological method in terms of postoperative pain.

BACKGROUND: Precise knowledge of the apical construction, which determines the end of the area for canal preparation and filling, is essential for the success of root canal treatment and the management of postoperative pain. For this purpose, devices based on various methods that determine the working length (WL) are used. However, it is still controversial which method provides the most accurate measurements. AIM: To investigate the compatibility of the electronic apex locator (EWL) and simultaneous working length determination (SWL) methods in single-root teeth in comparison with the radiog

Dentin-predentin complex and its permeability: physiologic overview.

The major channels for solute diffusion across dentin are the dentinal tubules. Since dentin permeation is proportional to the product of tubule number and diameter, both of which increase as the tubules converge on the pulp, we find that dentin permeability increases rapidly as the pulp chamber is approached. The presence of a smear layer of cutting debris on top of cut dentin decreases dentin permeability, especially when permeability is measured by fluid filtration. Further, intratubular material--such as mineral deposits, collagen fibrils, proteoglycan linings, bacteria, etc.--can greatly

Patient journey with Charcot-Marie-Tooth Disease - A German patient survey study.

BACKGROUND: Charcot-Marie-Tooth (CMT) and related disorders represent one of the largest groups of inherited neurological disorders. Long considered incurable, the first disease-modifying treatments are currently being evaluated in clinical trials. However, frequent misdiagnosis or delayed recognition are common, hindering timely treatment necessary to prevent permanent disability. In this study, we conducted a survey among patients from our CMT clinic and the German patient advocate group to capture patients’ perspective on the diagnostic journey and to explore solutions for earlier diagnosis
