Mutations in the DAX-1 (NROB1) gene result in X-linked congenital adrenal hypoplasia (AHC) and hypogonadotropic hypogonadism. The clinical presentation is usually as adrenal insufficiency in early life, with hypogonadotropic hypogonadism detected at the time of expected puberty. A woman in her early 20s presented with progressive low back pain, leg weakness and sphincter dysfunction. MRI revealed a 5 × 1.5 cm intramedullary tumour at the T12-L2 level. Elevated preoperative beta-human chorionic gonadotropin levels were noted. Surgical excision confirmed the diagnosis of a germinoma. Postoperative MRI showed no additional lesions. The patient underwent localized radiation therapy, but recurrence was noted 10 months later.

Ectopic pregnancy continues to be the leading cause of death in the first trimester. Here, we report the case of a 17-year-old female who presented with vaginal bleeding and a positive serum beta-human chorionic gonadotropin level. In addition, we review the literature, focusing on the early diagnosis and management with the increasing preference for nonsurgical management of ectopic pregnancy, particularly in adolescents.

We report two cases of unruptured tubal pregnancy that were evaluated on MRI at 5 weeks' gestation. In both cases, MRI revealed gestational sac-like structures surrounded by thickened walls outside the ovaries. At the periphery of gestational sac-like structures, small amounts of fresh blood were also identified. These findings highly indicate ectopic pregnancy in a patient with elevated human chorionic gonadotropin level.

A case of choriocarcinoma of the septum pellucidum is presented. The patient, a 6-year-old boy, demonstrated high levels of human chorionic gonadotropin in his urine, serum, and cerebrospinal fluid, and precocious puberty. The physical conditions and laboratory data returned to normal after surgical removal of the tumor, whole brain irradiation, and chemotherapy. Currently, there is no evidence of recurrence at 5 months after surgery.

Three monorchid colts were admitted for castration as cryptorchids. Two colts each had one normal descended testis, and the third colt had a small testis in the abdomen. Monorchidism was diagnosed at surgery by locating an incomplete epididymis without a testis. After the incomplete epididymis and other testis were removed, the absence of testicular tissue was confirmed by results of a human chorionic gonadotropin response test.
