INTRODUCTION: The internal pudendal arteries are the key resistance vessels controlling the peripheral circulatory component of sexual responses in both male and females. Previous studies in the male rat demonstrated that this vessel has markedly heightened susceptibility to vascular damage compared with other vessels in the body. Evidence suggests that the female may also be susceptible to vascular pathologies contributing to sexual dysfunction.
AIM: The aim of this study is to characterize the anatomical, morphological, and functional properties of the pudendal artery in female rats.

We describe a 25-year-old woman with diffuse esophageal leiomyomatosis. During childhood, achalasia was mistakenly diagnosed in this patient. Subsequently, she underwent cardiomyotomy and developed symptoms of Hirschsprung disease. These symptoms were caused by infiltration of the esophageal and rectal walls by benign muscular hypertrophy. True hermaphroditism is a rare cause of intersexuality in which both ovarian and testicular tissue is present in the same individual. We present the clinical findings, karyotype, gonadal histology and management of eight patients with true hermaphroditism. Their ages ranged from 43 days to 12 years at the first evaluation. The presenting symptoms were ambiguous genitalia (6 patients), isolated clitoromegaly (1 patient) and hypospadias (1 patient). The most common karyotype was 46,XX (6 patients). The objective of this present study is to establish a model in the rat for the study of female clitoral and vaginal vascular changes during sexual excitation. A laser Doppler was used to measure blood flow changes following clitoral and pelvic plexus nerve stimulations. OBJECTIVE: To assess the impact of mode of delivery and the occurrence of pelvic instability upon the pudendal nerve function and relate the pudendal nerve function to the occurrence of anal and urinary incontinence.
METHODS: One hundred and forty-six pregnant women were examined during pregnancy and 12 weeks post partum with measurement of pudendal nerve terminal motor latency (PNTML), the difference between the two measurements was defined as delta PNTML. Many women who present with symptoms of bladder dysfunction relate the onset to the operation of simple hysterectomy. A group of 42 women undergoing simple hysterectomy was studied prospectively. Urinary symptoms, urodynamic findings and sacral reflex latencies (SRLs) were assessed pre- and post-operatively. After hysterectomy the incidence of urinary symptoms increased from 58.3 to 75.0%. Sixty-six patients with ambiguous genitalia, representing a combined experience, underwent reconstruction of the perineum to achieve a feminine phenotype. These patients represent four major etiologic groups, adrenogenital syndrome, male pseudohermaphroditism, mixed gonadal dysgenesis, and true hermaphroditism. The experience of the authors with the surgical reconstruction of female external genitalia is described. In all cases in which these procedures were used, reduction clitoroplasty resulted in satisfactory cosmetic appearance and the preservation of tactile sensation, and posterior flap vaginoplasty provided adequate introital capacity.

The cases involving 32 women who had undergone early revision of ambiguous genitalia were reviewed 5 to 22 years postoperatively. Seven clitoridectomies, 25 clitoral recessions, 17 Y-V introitoplasties and 10 midline episiotomies were performed. There were 16 patients available for followup. The results of clitoral recessions were cosmetically and functionally satisfactory. Introital revisions done before puberty all required further revision and suggested that vaginoplasty should be deferred until after puberty.
