The determination of toxin-neutralizing antibodies in the sera of persons immunized with chemical typhus vaccine revealed that immunization made both in a single injection and in two injections resulted in the development of antitoxic immunity practically in all vaccinees. Although adneovirus type 19 (Ad19) was first described in 1955, this virus was not associated with disease until its isolation from outbreaks of conjunctivitis in 1973. A strain of Ad19 isolated from a case of conjunctivitis in Seattle in 1974 was compared with the reference strain (3911). Plaque number and size were enhanced by 30 mM MgCl2. Complement-binding antibodies to myocardium and cardiospecific enzyme creatine phosphokinase were determined in 25 patients with dilated cardiomyopathy, 29 patients with rheumatic myocarditis and in 21 patients with non-rheumatic myocarditis. The antibodies were shown to have diagnostic and differentiating significance in severe non-coronary heart disease associated with disordered systolic function of the heart.

To determine the prevalence of bovine Coxiella (C.) burnetii infections in Northern Lower Saxony, blood serum obtained from a total of 2160 cattle was examined for antibodies against C. burnetii using the complement fixation test (CFT). From 500 randomly sampled cattle, 38 (7.6%) were seropositive. Complement-binding antibodies to liver tissue, gallbladder, myocardium were determined in 20 patients with chronic cholecystitis, 21 patients with persisting hepatitis and 20 patients with liver cirrhosis. The obtained findings indicate that diseases of the hepatobiliary system may be accompanied by autoimmune involvement of the myocardium.

In order to characterize the precipitin bands detected in the immunodiffusion test for paracoccidioidomycosis, a study was undertaken in 54 patients with the disease.
