BACKGROUND & AIMS: Involvement of an abnormal von Willebrand factor in the bleeding expression of gastrointestinal angiodysplasias has been suggested but not assessed by prospective studies.
METHODS: To address this issue, 27 patients with either nonbleeding (group A, n = 9) or bleeding (group B, n = 9) digestive angiodysplasias or telangiectasias or diverticular hemorrhage (group C, n = 9) were enrolled. In all patients, an analysis of von Willebrand factor and a screening for the most common disorders associated with an acquired von Willebrand disease were performed.

The present study was undertaken to clarify a prokinetic activity of nizatidine (CAS 76963-41-2) during the digestive state as well as gastric emptying of a solid test meal in comparison with cimetidine (CAS 51481-61-9), famotidine (CAS 76842-35-6) and cisapride (CAS 81098-60-4). BACKGROUND: Malignant digestive-respiratory fistula (DRF) is associated with significant morbidity and mortality. In addition to the other recognized advantages of expandable stents, coated expandable stents can seal off DRF.
METHODS: Eight men and five women, mean age 52 yr, with endoscopically and radiographically proven DRF were treated with the coated Wallstent (Schneider). Eleven had dysphagia, 11 postprandial cough, and two required mechanical ventilation. The DRF was proximal in four, mid-esophageal in seven, and distal in two. Two had a normal esophagus and 11 had stricture.

The results of an enteral nutritional pattern used in 40 seriously ill patients who underwent gastrointestinal tract surgery, are described.
