Women workers' labour market engagement and financial autonomy: the mediating role of government initiatives in Kerala, India.

This research examines the interrelationship between the labour market engagement and financial autonomy of employed women, with a focus on the mediating role of government initiatives in Kerala, India. Despite high literacy rates and progressive social indicators in Kerala, low female labour force participation points to deep-seated socio-cultural and institutional barriers. Drawing on Human Capital Theory, the Gender and Development Framework, and Empowerment Theory, the study constructs a comprehensive model incorporating cultural, economic, and policy determinants. Because the sample compr

Economic impact of switching to licensed ready-to-administer injectable anaesthetic and critical care medicines in the National Health Service: a model-based evaluation of prefilled syringes.

BACKGROUND: Licensed, ready-to-administer injectable medicines can reduce medication errors, minimise waste, and streamline perioperative workflows, but higher acquisition costs have limited uptake in England. This study evaluated the economic impact of switching selected anaesthetic and critical care medicines from conventional ampoules and vials to licensed prefilled syringes within NHS practice. METHODS: An economic model compared current mixed-use practice with a hypothetical switch to 100% licensed ready-to-administer products for eight medicines: epinephrine 1 mg in 10 ml, ephedrine 30

Clinical and public health economic impact of rapid strain-matched vaccination in influenza pandemic mitigation: A UK-like population dynamic transmission model.

Influenza A virus H5N1 has recently circulated at unprecedented levels in birds and mammals, causing sporadic human infections. Using a susceptible-exposed-infectious-recovered (SEIR) dynamic transmission model of a UK-like population, this study aimed to quantify reductions in morbidity, mortality, and healthcare utilization attributable to rapid deployment of a strain-matched pandemic influenza vaccine; to compare outcomes across egg-based and cell-based vaccine platforms; to evaluate the economic impact of nonpharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) and their interaction with vaccination timing;

Institutional quality and pandemic resilience: cross-country evidence on health and economic outcomes during COVID-19.

BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic exposed large cross-country differences in mortality, vaccination rollout, and economic recovery. We examine whether stronger pre-pandemic institutions were associated with better pandemic performance and whether vaccination rollout helps explain part of that relationship. We combine 2019 World Bank Worldwide Governance Indicators with COVID-19 outcomes, policy measures, World Development Indicators, and V-Dem electoral democracy data, estimating cross-country regressions and a temporally ordered exploratory mediation model using vaccination by September 2021

Greening African Cities for Sustainability: A Systematic Review of Urban Gardening's Role in Biodiversity and Socio-Economic Resilience.

Urban gardening, particularly through food-producing green spaces, is increasingly recognized as a key strategy for addressing the complex challenges of climate change, food insecurity, biodiversity loss, and social inequity in African cities. This systematic review synthesizes evidence from 47 peer-reviewed studies across sub-Saharan Africa between 2000-2025 to analyze how urban home gardens, rooftop farms, and agroforestry systems contribute to sustainable urban development. The protocol follows PRISMA guidelines and focuses on (i) plant species selection for ecological resilience, (ii) inte

Transplant Trial Watch.

Osteoarthritis (OA) is highly prevalent and increasing in frequency; the number of patients with OA has increased by nearly 30% over the past 10 years. The primary symptom of OA is pain. Pain and other symptoms of OA may have a profound effect on quality of life (QOL), affecting both physical function and psychological parameters. The economic costs of OA are high, and include those related to treatment, those for individuals and their families who must adapt their lives and homes to the disease, and those due to lost work productivity. These considerable humanistic and economic burdens of OA

The comparison of socio-economic conditions and personal hygiene habits of neuro-Behçet's disease and multiple sclerosis patients.

The "hygiene hypothesis" suggests that a reduction in the exposure to infectious agents due to improved health conditions has contributed to the increased incidence of autoimmune disorders in developed countries. In keeping with the hygiene hypothesis, many autoimmune disorders such as multiple sclerosis (MS) are more frequently observed in developed countries. To identify the relevance of hygiene hypothesis in neuro-Behçet's disease (NBD), another chronic inflammatory disease of the central nervous system, we developed and administered a multiple choice questionnaire to evaluate the hygiene c

High incidence of rheumatic fever and rheumatic heart disease in the republics of Central Asia.

The epidemiological situation involving rheumatic fever (RF) and rheumatic heart disease (RHD) not only remains unresolved but is also a cause of serious concern due to the rapid increase in the incidence of RF/RHD in many developing countries. After the collapse of the Soviet Union, the republics of Central Asia experienced an economic decline that directly affected the public health sector of this region. This is the main cause of the high prevalence of many infectious diseases in Central Asia, including streptococcal tonsillopharyngitis, which carries the risk of complications such as RF. T

[Epidemiology of Helicobacter pylori infection].

About 50% of adults in the developed and 80-90% in the developing countries are estimated to be infected by Helicobacter pylori. Being 68% nationally, this rate is higher in the northern continental parts of Croatia, which also have higher gastric cancer rates. Low socio-economic status, poor living conditions in childhood (the age when Helicobacter pylori is typically acquired), and exposure to the stomach content of an infected person are risk factors for Helicobacter pylori. Most of the infected are symptomless, with 10 to 20% subsequently developing the disease, and this mainly from peptic
