Differing perspectives on the operationalization of schizotypal personality pathology (STPP) have led to numerous multidimensional assessment measures. The current study applied the interpersonal construct validation approach to self-report data from 856 undergraduate students to formally examine the interpersonal content, similarities, and differences in the subscales of four measures of STPP within and across two interpersonal circumplex surfaces using a bootstrapping methodology for computing confidence intervals around circumplex structural summary method parameters. Results suggested that…

Personality traits (PTs) are predictors of the success of control of brain-computer interfaces (BCIs); however, it is unknown how the PTs that are optimal for BCI control changes during training. The paper for the first time analyzes the correlations between PTs and the accuracy of the classification (AC) of brain states in imagining the movements of the hands, feet, and locomotion during 10-day training of ten volunteers in BCI control. In the first 3 days of training, the AC is higher for more stressed and anxious volunteers; in the last days, for calmer ones. In the middle of the training p…

Animal personalities manifest as consistent individual differences in the performance of specific behavioural expressions. Personality research has implications for zoo animal welfare, as it can further our understanding of how captive individuals may differ in their resource use and provide insight into improving individual and group social health. For group living species, personality may enable assortment based on similar behaviour and influence an individual's interactions with conspecifics (e.g. social support). This research aimed to document how personality traits (aggressive, explorato…

Assessment of personality disorders (PDs) in older adults is a nuanced trade of its own. The aim of this practice guide is to illustrate gerontological assessment challenges using 3 case vignettes. We argue that it is important to pay extra attention to the influence of cognitive and medical (somatic) disorders on personality functioning in older adults during personality assessment. We also note that information provided by informants contributes added value to personality assessment. Personality assessment should be sufficiently age-specific to prevent overdiagnosis or underdiagnosis in olde…

Wright et al. (2022) propose to replace personality disorders with a new classification of interpersonal disorders. We suggest that the trait model addresses well the limitations of the personality disorder categorical syndromes and accommodates the dynamics asserted as strengths of the interpersonal model. We identify weaknesses of the interpersonal model that explain why it has never been officially adopted. (PsycInfo Database Record (c) 2023 APA, all rights reserved).

The care of patients suffering from a borderline personality disorder confronted with death is a relational and clinical challenge for interdisciplinary teams. In this specific context, the particular psychic vulnerability of these patients highlights multiple issues. Based on the scarce existing literature and our clinical experience, this article presents management strategies in order to best support this population weakened by serious illness as well as the interdisciplinary teams that care for them.

BACKGROUND: Women are vulnerable to stress-related disorders. Examinations are a source of stress, triggering emotional, cognitive, and hormonal responses. We examined women's psychological and hormonal stress responses and academic performance according to personality during a real-life examination.
METHODS: Female students (N = 66) were divided into two groups based on hierarchical cluster analysis: one cluster characterized by high neuroticism and moderate extraversion (HN-ME; n = 42) and the other by low neuroticism and high extraversion (LN-HE; n = 24). Academic performance, perceived st…

INTRODUCTION: In myasthenia gravis (MG), depression and anxiety have frequently been reported as comorbidities. However, little is known about personality characteristics in MG patients. We aimed to characterise personality traits in MG and to correlate them with disease severity and disease course.
METHODS: The Big Five Inventory data questionnaire was used to investigate personality traits in 44 MG patients and 45 healthy controls similar in age and gender. In 28 MG patients, a caregiver was also available for patient assessments to limit bias associated with social desirability in patients…

BACKGROUND: Chronic headache (CH) is a condition that includes different subtypes of headaches and that can impair different life domains. Personality traits can play a relevant role both in the development and in coping with this medical condition. The first aim of the present study is to realize a systematic review of the personality traits associated with CH compared to healthy controls; the second objective is to carry out a quantitative meta-analysis with the studies using the same instrument to assess personality traits.
METHOD: The literature search encompassed articles published from …

OBJECTIVES: This study examined the association between voice disorders and personality by comparing a heterogenic group of dysphonic patients to non-dysphonic speakers using the NEO-FFI big-five personality inventory.
METHODS: A group of 100 dysphonic patients diagnosed with 24 different pathologies was compared to 149 non-dysphonic speakers. Inter-group differences on the five NEO-FFI scales were evaluated using three analysis approaches, a general comparison between the dysphonic and non-dysphonic groups and arranging pathologies using a categorical and a continuous approach.
RESULTS: Of …

Personality changes following neurosurgical procedures remain poorly understood and pose a major concern for patients, rendering a strong need for predictive biomarkers. Here we report a case of a female patient in her 40s who underwent resection of a large sagittal sinus meningioma with bilateral extension, including resection and ligation of the superior sagittal sinus, that resulted in borderline personality disorder. Importantly, we captured clinically-observed personality changes in a series of experiments assessing self-other voice discrimination, one of the experimental markers for self…

Readmission of psychiatric inpatients is highly prevalent and places a significant financial burden on the healthcare system. Rehospitalisation is often used as a metric of quality of care in psychiatric settings, but little is known about how specific personality traits impact readmission in adult psychiatric inpatients. A convenience sample of 94 adults (mean age = 36.8 years; female = 54.3%; European American = 76.6%) at an inpatient psychiatric hospital completed the Personality Inventory for DSM-5-Brief Form (PID-5-BF; American Psychiatric Association, 2013); demographic and medical infor…

OBJECTIVE: The Global Alliance for Prevention and Early Intervention for Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) proposed a major change for youth mental health services. The Alliance recommended that early detection and specialised treatment for youth BPD becomes a major focus of their clinical activities. Since structured psychotherapies for BPD are complex and lengthy, this proposal has significant implications for youth policy, planning and resource allocation. Our commentary addresses whether BPD is diagnosable and treatable in youth, and whether early intervention results in longer-term be…

In the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition, Section III alternative model of personality disorder, narcissistic personality disorder (NPD) is assessed via required elevations on 2 of 4 Criterion A domains of personality dysfunction (i.e., self-direction, identity, empathy, intimacy) and 2 personality traits (Criterion B: attention seeking and grandiosity). Evidence to date suggests that these 2 traits successfully account for variance in scores in traditionally (i.e., Section II) assessed NPD and grandiose narcissism but leave substantial variance unaccounted f…

Phubbing among undergraduate has become an area of increasing research interest in recent years. In recent years, studies on phubbing have increased. However, no empirical study has deal with the mediating effect of fear of missing out (FoMO) on the relationship between dark triad and phubbing. The dark triad refers to three personality traits: Machiavellianism, psychopathy, and narcissism. Machiavellianism is characterized by prioritizing one's own wishes and desires. Psychopathy, is a personality trait where lack of emotion and self-control is seen. Narcissism is characterized by low empathy…

The aim of this article is to empirically investigate the relationships among interpersonal guilt, as conceived within control-mastery theory (CMT), and attachment, altruism, and personality pathology in an English-speaking sample. An online sample of 393 participants was recruited to complete the Interpersonal Guilt Rating Scale self-report version-15 (IGRS-15s), together with other empirically validated measures for the assessment of attachment, altruism, and personality pathology. On the basis of previous studies conducted in Italian-speaking samples, we hypothesized that survivor guilt, se…
