Tree peony (Paeonia suffruticosa Andr.) is a traditional ornamental plant of high economic and cultural value, but its flower longevity is often limited by petal water loss. Cuticular wax serves as an essential barrier against non-stomatal water loss, and the AP2/EREBP (APETALA2/Ethylene-Responsive Element Binding Protein) transcription factor family is known to regulate wax biosynthesis. However, little information is available on the roles of AP2/EREBP genes in petal cuticle formation in tree peony. In this study, we performed transcriptome sequencing on petals of the tree peony cultivar 'Ba

As a major commercial legume crop, soybean ranks among the world's most significant sources of edible oil and plant protein. We previously identified a SEIPIN homologue (FA9) at the fatty acid 9 locus that promotes fatty acid accumulation in soybean. To examine the detailed molecular mechanisms by which FA9 regulates lipid metabolism, we performed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) and spatial transcriptomics (stRNA-seq) of wild-type and FA9-knockout soybean seeds at the late maturity stage. scRNA-seq analysis identified 26 transcriptional clusters and revealed the spatial distribution of

Xylella fastidiosa (Xf) is a xylem-limited bacterial pathogen causing disease in a variety of important agricultural crops, including almonds. Almond leaf scorch (ALS) disease was first identified in Israel in 2017 and is associated with the subspecies X. fastidiosa subsp. fastidiosa (Xff) sequence type 1. Currently, there is no effective means to cure infected almond trees, and ALS management relies primarily on uprooting infected trees and reducing vector populations, yet these methods are only moderately effective. Thus, identifying resistant almond genotypes is a critical goal for developi

Apple is an important cash crop in China, and it is susceptible to fungal infections that have deleterious effects on its yield. Apple bitter rot caused by Colletorichum gloeosporioides is one of the most severe fungal diseases of apple. Salicylic acid (SA) is a key signalling molecule in the plant disease resistance signalling pathways. Lignin synthesis also plays a key role in conferring disease resistance. However, few studies have clarified the relationship between the SA disease resistance signalling pathway and the lignin disease resistance pathway in apple. MdMYB46 has previously been s

Chlorophylls and carotenoids are essential and beneficial substances for both plant and human health. Identifying the regulatory network of these pigments is necessary for improving fruit quality. In a previous study, we identified an R2R3-MYB transcription factor, SlMYB72, that plays an important role in chlorophyll and carotenoid metabolism in tomato fruit. Here, we demonstrated that the SlMYB72-interacting protein SlZHD17, which belongs to the zinc-finger homeodomain transcription factor family, also functions in chlorophyll and carotenoid metabolism. Silencing SlZHD17 in tomato improved mu

Prairie voles (Microtus ochrogaster) are characterized as facultative breeders with higher rates of reproductive activities observed during spring and summer than autumn and winter. The environmental factors regulating seasonal breeding in this species remain unspecified. Short day lengths inhibit reproductive organ development in male prairie voles in the laboratory, but these males remain fertile and capable of siring offspring; female prairie voles have been reported to be reproductively unresponsive to day length in the laboratory. The organization of estrus in this species is unusual in t

BACKGROUND: Phosphorus is an essential nutrient in all living organisms and, currently, it is the focus of much attention due to its global scarcity, the environmental impact of phosphorus from excreta, and its low digestibility due to its storage in the form of phytates in plants. In poultry, phosphorus utilization is influenced by composition of the ileum microbiota and host genetics. In our study, we analyzed the impact of host genetics on composition of the ileum microbiota and the relationship of the relative abundance of ileal bacterial genera with phosphorus utilization and related quan

The mulberry crinkle leaf virus (MCLV) is a representative member of the genus Mulcrilevirus of the family Geminiviridae. Here, the bidirectional promoter activity of the long intergenic region (LIR) of MCLV and the roles of a specific element consisting of five GAAAAA repeats [(GAAAAA)5] in LIR were investigated using Agrobacterium-mediated transient expression and transfection of Nicotiana benthamiana protoplasts. Transient expression results demonstrated that, similar to other geminiviruses, MCLV’s LIR also exhibits bidirectional promoter activity. The promoter activity of the C-sense is si

Genomic prediction has become a central paradigm in biology, enabling quantitative inference of genetic contributions to complex traits across humans, animals, and plants. Although genomic research in human genetics and animal breeding shares a highly homologous methodological foundation, significant barriers persist in their analytical paradigms and application scenarios. This study aims to promote cross-disciplinary integration by introducing human-derived polygenic scores (PGS) algorithms into animal genomic selection (GS) and proposing a PGS-GS framework with a preliminary weighting-based

Phytophthora root rot, a devastating disease caused by Phytophthora sojae, poses a significant threat to worldwide soybean (Glycine max) production. Therefore, enhancing crop resistance to this pathogen is a major breeding objective. However, the signalling mechanisms underlying the response of soybean plants to P. sojae infection, and the networks and targets of key transcription factors TFs, are not yet fully understood. Here, we reveal the mechanisms and function of GmERF109, which differs in expression between soybean cultivars resistant and susceptible to P. sojae race 1 and encodes an AP
