Control of foot and ankle positions with orthotic appliances is generally more difficult to accomplish in children with spastic than flaccid paralytic disorders. We describe the triple operation for prolapse with prosthesis in patients with pelvic organ prolapse using a vesicovaginal mesh for the cystocele, a rectovaginal mesh for the rectocele and a posterior retro-and trans levatory vault suspension sling. Preliminary results in a consecutive series of 92 patients who underwent surgery between June 2001 and December 2002 showed three cases of vaginal erosion in contact with the prosthetic material, and one hematoma of the pararectal fossa with secondary abscess formation requiring ablation of the implant. BACKGROUND: Severe decentration and subluxation of intraocular lenses (IOLs) may lead to double vision, glare and deterioration of vision to the point of functional aphakia. The purpose of the present study was to analyse causes for severe IOL dislocation.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Between January 1989 and January 1996, 37 patients required IOL exchange because of decentrated or subluxated posterior chamber lenses. BACKGROUND: Adhesion formation between viscera and mesh is almost inevitable following incisional hernia repair with prosthetic mesh. Such adhesions may lead to intestinal obstruction and enterocutaneous fistulae formation and make further laparotomies extremely difficult. In our department, we studied 243 patients who underwent open or close tympanoplasty, from 1984 to 1989, generally caused by cholesteatoma (229 cases) or by non-cholesteatomatous chronic suppurative otitis media (14 cases). Extrusion of the prosthesis occurred in 15 (11.11%) of a total of 136 cases after an average time of 12.46 months during a 4 to 8 years evolution period. The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of synthetic augmentation of a bone-patellar tendon-bone allograft on the basis of biomechanical, morphologic, and histologic evaluation. STUDY OBJECTIVE: We detected mesh erosion and serious postoperative complications in 3 women after performing laparoscopic promontofixation (LPF) using glue for mesh fixation. Glue, largely used in hernia surgery repair, is proposed by some gynecologic surgeons because it saves time and is easier to use than traditional sutures.
