Female paraurethral leiomyoma in non-sexually active woman: A case report.

Leiomyomas are benign fibromuscular tumors that arise from smooth muscle cells. Paraurethral leiomyoma accounts for 5% of all paraurethral masses and occurs in 1 in 1000 women. We reported a case of a 43-year-old female presented with a palpable mass at the vaginal introitus with lower urinary tract symptoms. Patient had no pregnancy and sexual history before. A pelvic MRI demonstrated a 1.6 x 1.7 × 2.0 cm mass within the anterior part of the paraurethra. The excision of the mass was done via transvaginal approach and was successful. The final post-operative pathology report was confirmed as l

A rare cardiac tumor: Bronchogenic cyst of interatrial septum.

Intracardiac bronchogenic cysts are uncommon congenital tumors, which rarely become symptomatic. We describe a rare case of bronchogenic cyst in the atrioventricular node. A 36-year-old man with third-degree atrioventricular block was referred to our hospital. Transthoracic echocardiography revealed a cystic mass at the right atrial aspect of the low interatrial septum. He underwent surgical resection of the mass, and a permanent epicardium pacemaker was implanted. His postoperative course was uneventful. Microscopic examination showed a cyst surrounded by ciliated columnar epithelium and part

We presented a case of 41-year-old patient underwent two laparoscopic Myomectomies and current laparotomy regarding suspection of necrotic leiomyoma. Intraoperative finding was suggestive of disseminated malignancy, but gefrir study showed benign smooth muscle tumors. The patient underwent total hysterectomy with right adnesectomy and total omentectomy. After histological and immunohistochemical study of the entire macroscopic material the final diagnosis was disseminated peritoneal leiomyomatosis. This disease is rare, but in recent years, in connection with the widespread introduction of lap…

Adenomyoma arising in a meckel diverticulum: case report and review of the literature.

We report a case of adenomyoma of the small intestine arising in a Meckel diverticulum. The patient was a 22-month-old boy who presented with signs and symptoms of intussusception. At surgery, a Meckel diverticulum was found and removed. On histologic examination, a tumor consisting of dilated cystic glands and smooth muscle bundles was identified. A diagnosis of adenomyoma arising in a Meckel diverticulum was made. A review of the literature showed that only six other pediatric cases of adenomyoma of the small intestine have been reported. The presence of an adenomyoma in a young patient with

Expanding the Spectrum of Colonic Manifestations in Tuberous Sclerosis: L-Cell Neuroendocrine Tumor Arising in the Background of Rectal PEComa.

Tuberous sclerosis complex (TSC) is an autosomal dominant neurocutaneous condition that predisposes to numerous proliferative lesions, including perivascular epithelioid cell tumors (PEComas), such as lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) and angiomyolipomas, and rare neuroendocrine neoplasms. We describe herein a TSC2-harboring tuberous sclerosis patient manifesting with a synchronous well-differentiated L-cell rectal neuroendocrine tumor and leiomyomatosis-like LAM of the rectum. The background large bowel wall was thickened by confluent nodular areas comprising vessels and spindle-to-epithelioid c

Malignant clear-cell myomelanocytic tumor of broad ligament--a case report.

Clear-cell myomelanocytic tumors (CCMT) of the perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa) family have been recently reported. We report a case involving a 12-year-old girl. The tumor (9 x 7.5 x 7 cm) was a firm, tan-gray mass with heavily dark pigmentation, massive hemorrhage, and necrosis, and was located in the right broad ligament attached to the right ovary. Histologically, the tumor was composed of polygonal cells exhibiting diffuse hemorrhage, multifocal necroses, and vascular invasion. Most of the tumor cells contained melanin pigments with Fontana-Masson positivity and ultrastructura

Rectal leiomyosarcoma diagnosed by endoscopic ultrasonography.

A 67 year-old man was admitted to the Tainan Municipal Hospital due to a protruding mass, usually noted during defecation. Digital examination revealed a single, smooth, large mass over the rectum, occupying almost the entire lumen. Colonoscopy, barium enema, and computed tomography (CT) demonstrated a submucosal tumor of the rectum. Endoscopic ultrasound (EUS) study showed that the tumor originated from the muscle layer. Based on the size, margin and echogenicity of the mass, a malignant neoplasm, probably leiomyosarcoma, was diagnosed. Post-operative histologic examination confirmed that the

A rhabdomyoma within a multilocular thymic cyst in a p53-null mouse.

A 9-month-old p53-null female mouse was found dead in its cage. At necropsy, a large thymic mass encompassed the heart. Microscopically, the mass was composed of numerous varying-sized cysts lined with simple squamous epithelial cells to columnar ciliated cells. Also present within this mass was a large aggregate of loosely arranged fusiform-shaped cells. These cells also were found in smaller numbers in the connective tissue surrounding the cysts. The larger aggregate of fusiform cells was positive for desmin and S-100 and negative for smooth muscle actin. Electron microscopy revealed well-fo

Urethral Leiomyoma in Pregnancy: A Rare Case of Symptomatic Pelvic Mass With Successful Surgical Management.

Leiomyomas, benign tumors derived from smooth muscle, are typically found in the uterus. Urethral involvement is an exceptionally rare occurrence, particularly in the context of a pre-fashioned thigh flap. Our case, therefore, presents a unique and intriguing instance, with only a few similar cases reported. We present a case of a 27-year-old primigravida at 11 weeks gestation with a protruding anterior vaginal mass, pelvic heaviness, and recurrent urinary complaints. A well-circumscribed vascular mass came out through the vulval orifice on physical examination. Transvaginal ultrasonography an

Corosolic acid ameliorates vascular remodeling in pulmonary arterial hypertension via the downregulation of STAT3 signaling.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a progressive and fatal disease that is characterized by vascular remodeling of the pulmonary artery. PAH remodeling is primarily caused by the excessive proliferation of pulmonary arterial smooth muscle cells (PASMCs). Therefore, an inhibitory mechanism is expected as a target for the treatment of PAH. Corosolic acid (CRA) is a pentacyclic triterpenoid extracted from the leaves of Banaba (Lagerstroemia speciosa) that exerts anti-diabetic, anti-inflammatory, and anti-tumor effects. In the present study, the effects of CRA on PAH remodeling were examined

Application of a Patient Derived Xenograft Model for Predicative Study of Uterine Fibroid Disease.

Human uterine fibroids, benign tumors derived from the smooth muscle layers of the uterus, impose a major health burden to up to 50% of premenopausal women in their daily life. To improve our understanding of this disease, we developed and characterized a patient-derived xenograft model by subcutaneous transplantation of pieces of human uterine fibroid tissue into three different strains of severe combined immunodeficient mice. Engrafted uterine fibroid tissue preserved the classical morphology with interwoven bundles of smooth muscle cells and an abundant deposition of collagenous matrix, sim

Research Progress on Hemoglobin Expression in Non-Erythroid Cells and Tumor Cells.

Hemoglobin (Hb) is traditionally recognized as an erythroid-specific protein with the core function of mediating transmembrane transport of oxygen and carbon dioxide. In recent years, emerging studies have confirmed that hemoglobin is also expressed in the cytoplasm of various normal somatic cells and tumor cells. In normal somatic cells such as alveolar epithelial cells, vascular endothelial cells and chondrocytes, hemoglobin exerts multiple biological functions including oxygen storage, protection of smooth muscle soluble guanylate cyclase from excessive desensitization to nitric oxide, as w

Hepatic perivascular epithelioid cell tumors: Benign, malignant, and uncertain malignant potential.

In 2013, the World Health Organization defined perivascular epithelioid cell tumor (PEComa) as "a mesenchymal tumor which shows a local association with vessel walls and usually expresses melanocyte and smooth muscle markers." This generic definition seems to better fit the PEComa family, which includes angiomyolipoma, clear cell sugar tumor of the lung, lymphangioleiomyomatosis, and a group of histologically and immunophenotypically similar tumors that include primary extrapulmonary sugar tumor and clear cell myomelanocytic tumor. Clear cell tumors with this immunophenotypic pattern have also

Spindle Epithelial Tumor With Thymus-Like Differentiation of Thyroid (SETTLE): A Case Report and Literature Review.

Spindle epithelial tumor with thymus-like differentiation of thyroid (SETTLE) is very rare neoplasm with 2 cellular forms, epithelial cell and spindle cell, and most reported cases have been in young people. An 11-year-old boy presented with painless swelling of the right neck lasting for more than 2 months. A tumor size measuring approximately 3 × 3 cm was resected, and intraoperative frozen pathology suggested a spindle cell tumor, which was confirmed as SETTLE by immunohistochemical staining and external hospital consultation. The immunohistochemical staining profile of the resected tumor t
