Ultrafast and Highly Responsive Near-Infrared Photodetector Based on PdSe2/Cs3BiSbI9 Type-I Heterojunction.

Two-dimensional (2D) PdSe2 has great application potential for broadband photodetection from the visible to near-infrared spectral region owing to its tunable bandgap, relatively high room-temperature carrier mobility, and excellent air stability. However, PdSe2-based photodetectors typically suffer from relatively high dark current and limited response speed, which hinder their practical applications in weak-light and fast near-infrared detection. In this work, a vertical PdSe2/Cs3BiSbI9 type-I heterojunction photodetector was successfully fabricated by integrating centimeter-scale PdSe2 film

Case Report: Low-intensity transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation improves social interaction and stereotyped behavior in a boy with autism spectrum disorder.

OBJECTIVES: Presently, no biomedical therapies are available that specifically address the core symptoms of autism spectrum disorders. Given the evidence of cortical malfunction in ASD, low-intensity transcranial focused ultrasound stimulation has been discussed as a prospective therapeutic technique. METHODS: We describe the application of transcranial focused ultrasound to the left dorsolateral prefrontal cortex in a boy with ASD, which was applied for 30 minutes each consecutive weekday for four weeks (20 sessions in total). Social interaction, stereotyped behavior and language were assess

A novel optical technology based on 690 nm and 850 nm wavelengths to assist needle thoracostomy.

The sensitivity of pneumothorax diagnosis via handheld ultrasound is low, and there is no equipment suitable for use with life-threatening tension pneumothorax in a prehospital setting. This study proposes a novel technology involving optical fibers and near-infrared spectroscopy to assist in needle thoracostomy decompression. The proposed system via the optical fibers emitted dual wavelengths of 690 and 850 nm, allowing distinction among different layers of tissue in vivo. The fundamental principle is the modified Beer-Lambert law (MBLL) which is the basis of near-infrared tissue spectroscopy

Colorimetric and fluorimetric detection of Fe(III) using a novel chromenylium-cyanine near-infrared fluorescence probe: Photophysical properties, DFT studies and cell imaging.

A novel chromenylium-cyanine near-infrared fluorescent probe named FTP is devised and successfully fabricated by using a Rhodamine derivative as the fluorescence-generating precursor for selectively and sensitively detecting Fe3+ in aqueous environments. Notably, its maximum emission wavelength reaches up to 743 nm, which lies in the first near-infrared window. The structure of FTP underwent characterization via Fourier Transform Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR), Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS) and Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR). The probe FTP demonstrates excellent selectivity a

Using Near Infrared Light to Detect Hypoxia in Retinal Images.

INTRODUCTION: Acute hypoxia poses a serious risk in military aviation because it can lead to impaired performance of safety-critical tasks. Early detection of hypoxia is therefore critical. Oxygen saturation (Spo2) of the retinal blood vessels may serve as a surrogate biomarker for brain hypoxia. This study investigates the feasibility of detecting hypoxia through retinal imaging in the near-infrared (NIR) spectrum, which does not interfere with the pilot's vision. METHODS: There were 12 subjects who participated in a hypobaric flight simulation to lower systemic Spo2. Retinal images were cap

Near-infrared in vivo imaging system for dynamic visualization of lung-colonizing bacteria in mouse pneumonia.

UNLABELLED: In vivo imaging of bacterial infection models enables noninvasive and temporal analysis of individuals, enhancing our understanding of infectious disease pathogenesis. Conventional in vivo imaging methods for bacterial infection models involve the insertion of the bacterial luciferase LuxCDABE into the bacterial genome, followed by imaging using an expensive ultrasensitive charge-coupled device (CCD) camera. However, issues such as limited light penetration into the body and lack of versatility have been encountered. We focused on near-infrared (NIR) light, which penetrates the bod

Characterization of the partially reduced cyanide-inhibited derivative of cytochrome c oxidase by optical, electron-paramagnetic-resonance and magnetic-circular-dichroism spectroscopy.

Optical. e.p.r. and near-infrared low-temperature m.c.d. (magnetic-circular-dichroism) spectroscopy were used to characterize the partially reduced cyanide-inhibited derivative of cytochrome c oxidase produced by anaerobic reductive titration with dithionite. The reductions of cytochrome a3+ and Cu2+a were followed by observation of the e.p.r. signals at g = 3.03, 2.21 and 1.5 and at g = 2.18, 2.03 and 1.99. As reduction proceeds new e.p.r. signals (g = 3.58 and 1.56) appear that quantify to give one haem per enzyme unit when a small excess of dithionite has been titrated in. The e.p.r. signal

Comparison of quantitative light-induced fluorescence and near-infrared intraoral scanner imaging for proximal caries across predefined ICCMS radiographic thresholds: a diagnostic accuracy study.

BACKGROUND: Proximal caries detection remains challenging because early lesions are often inaccessible to visual inspection and bitewing radiography exposes patients to ionizing radiation. Quantitative light-induced fluorescence (QLF) and near-infrared imaging integrated into intraoral scanners are proposed as non-ionizing adjuncts. This study compared the diagnostic performance of a handheld QLF device (QrayPen C, Aiobio) and an intraoral scanner with near-infrared imaging (NIRI) (iTero Element 5D, Align Technology) for proximal caries across clinically relevant ICCMS radiographic thresholds.

Turn-On Near-Infrared Lateral Flow Immunoassay with Synergistic Energy Transfer for Direct and Ultrasensitive Detection in Complex Matrices.

The rapid, sensitive, and quantitative detection of small-molecule analytes in complex matrices remains fundamentally constrained by severe optical interference and limited signal transduction efficiency. Herein, we report a turn-on near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence lateral flow immunoassay (NFLFIA) that integrates indocyanine green-embedded nanoparticles and horseradish peroxidase-loaded gold nanorods as a spectrally matched donor-acceptor pair. Benefiting from the intrinsically low optical background of the NIR window and a cascade quenching mechanism governed by synergistic inner-filter effe

Cerebral autoregulation in neonates with a hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus.

OBJECTIVE: Very low birth weight (VLBW) preterm infants are at risk for impaired cerebral autoregulation with pressure passive blood flow. Fluctuations in cerebral perfusion may occur in infants with a hemodynamically significant patent ductus arteriosus (hsPDA), especially during ductal closure. Our goal was to compare cerebral autoregulation using near-infrared spectroscopy in VLBW infants treated for an hsPDA. STUDY DESIGN: This prospective observational study enrolled 28 VLBW infants with an hsPDA diagnosed by echocardiography and 12 control VLBW infants without an hsPDA. Near-infrared sp

Evidence for early supply independent mitochondrial dysfunction in patients developing multiple organ failure after trauma.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether early supply independent mitochondrial oxidative dysfunction occurs in trauma patients who develop multiple organ failure (MOF). DESIGN: Prospective focused observational trial. METHODS: High-risk patients were aggressively resuscitated while being continuously monitored by near infrared spectroscopy. Near infrared spectroscopy monitoring strips allow for a direct comparison of changes in tissue oxyhemoglobin levels (HbO2), which reflect local oxygen supply, and cytochrome a,a3 redox, which reflects mitochondrial oxygen consumption. Under normal conditions, Hb

Foetal growth, birth transition, enteral nutrition and brain light scattering.

If the brain structure is assessed at neonatal intensive care units, covert clinical events related with subtle brain injury might be identified. The reduced scattering coefficient of near-infrared light (μS') obtained using time-resolved near-infrared spectroscopy from the forehead of infants is associated with gestational age, body weight and Apgar scores, presumably reflecting subtle changes of the brain related to foetal growth and birth transition. One hundred twenty-eight preterm and term infants were studied to test whether μS' obtained from the head at term-equivalent age is associated

Deeper affection, more consumptions: consumer decision-making among people with different levels of intimacy-evidence from fNIRS.

Consumer decision-making varies according to an individual's relationship with the recipient of the gift. This study used a mock purchase task to investigate consumer decision-making and its underlying neurological mechanisms when purchasing gifts of different prices for recipients with varying levels of intimacy. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy was used to record neural activity during the task. Behavioral results found that the lover group had a much higher purchasing rate than the friend group, particularly when acquiring premium products. Analysis of the functional near-infrared spec

Preventing prefrontal dysfunction by tDCS modulates stress-induced creativity impairment in women: an fNIRS study.

Stress is a major external factor threatening creative activity. The study explored whether left-lateralized activation in the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex manipulated through transcranial direct current stimulation could alleviate stress-induced impairment in creativity. Functional near-infrared spectroscopy was used to explore the underlying neural mechanisms. Ninety female participants were randomly assigned to three groups that received stress induction with sham stimulation, stress induction with true stimulation (anode over the left and cathode over the right dorsolateral prefrontal co

Cerebral hemodynamic response during the resuscitation period after hypoxic-ischemic insult predicts brain injury on day 5 after insult in newborn piglets.

Perinatal hypoxic-ischemic brain injury of neonates remains a significant problem worldwide. During the resuscitation period, changes in cerebral hemoglobin oxygen saturation (ScO2) have been identified by near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS). However, in asphyxiated neonates, the relationship between these changes and brain injury is not known. Three-wavelength near-infrared time-resolved spectroscopy, an advanced technology for NIRS, allows for the estimation of ScO2 and cerebral blood volume (CBV). Here, we studied changes in ScO2 and CBV during the resuscitation period after hypoxic-ischemic

Spontaneous slow hemodynamic oscillations are impaired in cerebral microangiopathy.

Small-vessel disease or cerebral microangiopathy (CMA) is a common finding in elderly people. It is related to a variety of vascular risk factors and may finally lead to subcortical ischemic vascular dementia. Because vessel stiffness is increased, we hypothesized that slow spontaneous oscillations are reduced in cerebral hemodynamics. Accordingly, we examined spontaneous oscillations in the visual cortex of 13 patients suffering from CMA, and compared them with 14 age-matched controls. As an imaging method we applied functional near-infrared spectroscopy, because it is particularly sensitive

Near infrared spectra (4000-10 500 cm-1) of phenol-OH and phenol-OD in carbon tetrachloride.

The near infrared spectra (3800-10 500 cm(-1) of phenol-OH and phenol-OD are studied in carbon tetrachloride solution. The bandwidth of the v(OH) and v(OD) stretching vibrations increases with the vibrational quantum number in contrast to results obtained by nonresonant ionization spectroscopy (S.I. Ishiuchi et al., Chem. Phys. Lett. 283 (1998) 243). The bandwidth of the v(CH) vibrations obtained by a deconvolution procedure also increases with the frequencies associated with the vibrational transitions. The anharmonicity of the v(CH) vibrations ranges between 51 and 72 cm(-1). Numerous absorp
