Insertion of percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy tubes with jejunal extensions using the "wedge" technique: a novel method to prevent retrograde tube migration into the stomach.

Background and study aim In percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (PEG) with jejunal extension (PEGJ) procedures, retrograde migration of the jejunal extension tube into the stomach during endoscope withdrawal is a frustrating problem. We describe the novel "wedge" technique for inserting the jejunal extension tube, utilizing single-balloon enteroscopy to anchor it in place. Patients and methods Prospective 1-year study of consecutive patients undergoing PEGJ insertion at a single tertiary care center. The primary outcome was number of pyloric intubations required to place the jejunal extension

Retrieval of Migrated Volume Coils Using Different Clot Retrievers in a Porcine Model.

PURPOSE: During endovascular treatment of intracranial aneurysms using coils, migration is a serious complication that increases neurological morbidity. The aim of this experimental study was to assess the effectiveness and complications of retrieving volume coils with different, currently available clot retrievers in a porcine model. METHODS: Volume coils of three-dimensional (3D) shape and different sizes were placed in the axillary artery of pigs. By means of 4 different clot retrievers (Trevo ProVue; Solitaire FR; 3D-Separator; ERIC) a total of 40 retrieval maneuvers (10 per retriever) we

Migration of Amplatzer Septal Occluder to the Deep Aortic Arch in a Patient With Multiple Anatomic Anomalies.

Atrial septal defect closure using the Amplatzer septal occluder (AGA Medical Corp, Golden Valley, MN) device is an established treatment option with excellent clinical outcome. However, several structural characteristics have been reported to be prognostic factors for failure of catheter interventional treatment. We report successful surgical removal of an Amplatzer septal occluder that had become dislocated and had migrated into the deep aortic arch. Compatible with previous reports, the patient presented with an atrial septal defect complicated by multiple anatomic deformities that were con

Removal of an incarcerated intrauterine device in the sigmoid colon under the assistance of hysteroscope and laparoscope: a case report.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: To explore the value of hysteroscope and laparoscope in removing an incarcerated or ectopic intrauterine device (IUD). MATERIALS AND METHODS: A 33-year-old woman was admitted to the present hospital on May 22nd, 2013. An incarcerated IUD was proven by ultrasonography. An IUD had been implanted in October 2011. Clinical case report of an incarcerated IUD in the sigmoid colon. RESULTS: An IUD was successfully removed with the assistance of hysteroscope and laparoscope. CONCLUSION: Ultrasonography should be performed in the follow-up of the patients after IUD implantation. Ect

Porcupine quill migration in the thoracic cavity of a German shorthaired pointer.

A 7 yr old German shorthaired pointer presented with progressive respiratory distress and lethargy. Two weeks prior to presentation, the dog had porcupine quills removed from the left forepaw, muzzle, and sternal area. At the time of presentation, the dog had bounding pulses and friction rubs in the right dorsal lung field. Harsh lung sounds and decreased lung sounds were ausculted in multiple lung fields. Radiographs revealed a pneumothorax and rounding of the cardiac silhouette suggestive of pericardial effusion. Computed tomographic imaging was performed and revealed multiple porcupine quil

From the "bell-bottom" to a migrated "running stent" and then a successful conversion to hypogastric branched endograft.

Preservation of one or both internal iliac arteries (IIA) during endovascular repair of an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) reduces the risk of buttock claudication, sexual dysfunction, and pelvic ischemia. Various techniques have been reported for this purpose. We report a case involving the proximal migration of a bell-bottom limb of a previous endovascular aneurysm repair (EVAR), leading to a type I distal endoleak. On reconstruction, the stent graft resembled a person running and was subsequently named a "running stent"; this had no particular clinical relevance. The patient was successfull

Double J catheter migrated to the bladder and encrusted. Case report and bibliographic review.

OBJECTIVE: Urinary tract obstruction is one of the most prevalent diseases in urology. The handling of it includes conservative (analgesia and fluid therapy) and invasive (urinary diversion) measures. Ureteral stent is the method currently employed for urinary tract diversion. Complications of urinary tract stents maintenance have already been studied and are well known. We report a case of ureteral stent migrated to the bladder, calcified and embedded and we review the existing literature. METHODS: A 28 year-old man with the diagnosis of ureteral stent coiled in bladder and calcified. The pa

Intragastric gastric band migration: erosion: an analysis of multicenter experience on 177 patients.

BACKGROUND: Laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding (LAGB) has proven to be a safe and effective surgical treatment for morbid obesity. It can be a simple, fast, reversible, anatomy-preserving procedure. Despite these advantages, its long-term efficacy came into question by the occurrence of complications such as intragastric band migration. Consistent information regarding this complication is still lacking. Treatment for migration is still being debated as well. Most of the inconsistencies of these data stem from the very low number of patients reported in single-center experiences or case r

Systematic review of erosion after laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding.

Erosion of the laparoscopic adjustable gastric band (LAGB) into the lumen of the stomach is a recognised complication of this procedure. We undertook a systematic literature review of the incidence, clinical features and management of erosions occurring after LAGB. A systematic search of relevant medical databases for full-text original articles looking for LAGB patients and reported erosions was conducted. We focussed on incidence, aetiology, clinical presentation, treatment, complications and weight loss. Twenty-five studies of LAGB reported 231 erosions in 15,775 patients (overall incidence

Laparoscopic removal of a copper intrauterine device from the sigmoid colon.

IUD translocation to the sigmoid colon after uterine perforation is a rare but serious event. Removal of the IUD in such a situation has been recommended because of the risk of complication, such as fistula formation and colonic perforation. We present the case of a 43-year-old female with a copper T380A IUD embedded in the sigmoid colon, which was removed with minimally invasive techniques.

Management of intraprocedural spontaneous stent migration into target aneurysm during stent-assisted coiling procedure.

OBJECTIVE: The stent-assisted coiling technique has expanded the applicability of endovascular treatment for wide-neck intracranial aneurysms. However, the stability of the deployed stent has been questioned. We present this case to demonstrate intraprocedural migration of the deployed stent and subsequent management. CLINICAL PRESENTATION: A 59-year-old female patient presented with dizziness and fatigue. Imaging, including CT and MR angiography, revealed a 7×6.5 mm wide-neck basilar tip aneurysm. INTERVENTION: Stent-assisted coiling was attempted. After deployment of the stent, the distal
