Meningeal mass revealing undifferentiated renal carcinoma: A case report.

Leptomeningeal metastasis (LM) is a rare but serious complication of solid tumors, including renal cell carcinoma (RCC). RCC typically spreads to the lungs, bones, and liver; LM remains uncommon and indicates advanced disease with poor prognosis. Symptoms include headaches, nausea, and neurological deficits due to raised intracranial pressure. MRI is the diagnostic modality of choice. We report a 60-year-old patient with headaches and orbital pain. Imaging showed a left frontal extra-axial mass invading the bone. Biopsy confirmed RCC metastasis, with a primary renal tumor. This case highlights

Intraosseous spindle cell hemangioma of the calcaneus: a case report and review of the literature.

Spindle cell hemangioma, a rare benign tumor characterized by cavernous blood vessels and spindled areas, typically arises in the subcutis of the distal extremities, particularly the hand. The case of intraosseous spindle cell hemangioma is extremely rare, and only 1 case arises in the frontal bone has been reported previously. We describe herein a case of intraosseous spindle cell hemangioma occurring in the left calcaneus in a 65-year-old woman. The patient was successfully treated by the operation. The present case is instructive especially in the differential diagnosis of primary bone tumo…

Ballistic study on the penetration potential and injury potential of different bullet types in the use of a newly developed bullet shooting stunner for adequate stunning of heavy cattle.

INTRODUCTION: Recently, a special bullet shooting stunner for heavy cattle has been developed that fires a bullet instead of a bolt. In the search for a suitable ammunition, the following criteria must be met: First, the energy of the bullet must be sufficient to penetrate the thick frontal bones of heavy cattle. Second, the injury potential at the corresponding penetration depth should preferably be large in order to damage brain tissue relevant to stunning. Third, the bullet must not perforate the occipital bone (over-penetration). METHODS: Four different bullet types [Hornady FTX, Hydra-Sh…

Correction of a Posttraumatic Orbital Deformity Using Three-Dimensional Modeling, Virtual Surgical Planning with Computer-Assisted Design, and Three-Dimensional Printing of Custom Implants.

We describe a case of complex, posttraumatic skull and orbital deformities that were evaluated and treated with advanced computer technology, including virtual surgical planning, three-dimensional (3D) modeling, and printed patient custom implants (PCI) fabricated by 3D printing. A 50-year-old man presented to our craniofacial referral center 1 year after failed reduction of complex left orbital, zygomatic, and frontal bone fractures due to a motorcycle collision. The patient's chief complaint was debilitating diplopia in all fields of gaze. On examination, he had left enophthalmos, left canth…

Painless lump over the forehead which turned painful: an unusual presentation of hepatocellular carcinoma.

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common malignancies and is known to most often present with symptomatology pertaining to local hepatic disease. Although HCC is known to metastasize to lungs, abdominal lymph nodes, adrenal glands and the vertebral column, it is rather rare to come across patients with skull metastasis. The manifestation of a solitary frontal bone metastasis leading to a painless lump over the forehead as the initial presenting feature of HCC is highly unusual. This case report pertains to a 40-year-old male patient who had initially observed a painless lump ov…

Gait patterns after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction.

The aim of this study is to analyse the changes in select gait parameters following anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) reconstruction. The study was performed on 15 subjects who underwent ACL reconstruction by the bone-patellar tendon-bone technique. Gait analysis was performed using the Elite three-dimensional (3D) optoelectronic system (BTS), a Kistler force platform and the Telemg telemetric electromyograph (BTS). Kinematic data were recorded for the principal lower limb joints (hip, knee and ankle). The examined muscles include vastus lateralis, rectus femoris, biceps femoris and semitendino

Tuberculosis: an extremely unusual cause of orbital wall erosion.

We present the case report of a 10-year-old girl who presented to us with a painless swelling involving the left infraorbital region. The swelling was diagnosed to be tubercular in origin with erosion of the zygomatic, maxillary and frontal bones constituting the inferior and lateral walls of the left orbit. The patient responded well to antitubercular chemotherapy. A discussion of the case and a literature review of causes of orbital erosion is presented.

Osteoma of maxillary sinus: a case report.

Craniofacial osteomas may be located either superficially or intraosseously on any bone of the cranium or face or within a paranasal sinus. Osteomas within the paranasal sinus account for 0.01% to 0.43% of patients; of these, up to 80% occur in the frontal sinus. An osteoma of maxillary sinus is extremely rare. We describe a rare case of osteoma of a 56-year-old Asian woman in the maxillary sinus.

Metastatic prostate adenocarcinoma of the dura mater.

A 70-year-old man with known metastatic prostate carcinoma to the long bones of the lower extremities, presented with a several day history of lethargy and confusion. CT was interpreted as showing bilateral acute and chronic subdural hematomas (SDH). Upon opening the dura, a yellowish, firm tumor was layered over the frontal convexity. No hematoma was found. Histological examination revealed prostate carcinoma.

Pott's Puffy Tumor: A Potentially Deadly Complication of Sinusitis.

Pott's puffy tumor (PPT) is a rare but potentially deadly complication of bacterial sinusitis that consists of subperiosteal abscess and osteomyelitis of the frontal bone. It is best diagnosed with computerized tomography (CT) with intravenous contrast or magnetic resonance imaging and treated with early broad-spectrum antibiotics and surgical intervention. We describe a case of PPT in a 7-year-old patient and present the CT images.

Delayed occurrence of intracranial supratentorial chondroma following compound depressed skull fracture.

We describe an exceptional case of a frontal convexity chondroma arising at the site of a compound depressed skull fracture operated on 12 years earlier. We conclude that intracranial chondroma should be included in the differential diagnosis of a calcified mass for the patients who had had a compound, depressed skull fracture along the suture line, especially in cases of dural laceration by the fragmented bone.

Computerised tomographic detection of intracranial complications of paranasal sinus infections.

Ninety-four patients were referred for CT examination of the paranasal sinuses within a five year period. Only 11 (11.7%) of them had intracranial complications. These include cerebral, subdural and epidural abscesses, frontal bone osteomyelitis. The maxillary and ethmoidal sinuses were mostly involved and can be implicated as the sinogenic causes of intracranial infections. Sphenoidal sinus was not involved in any of the patients.

[Orbitofrontal bone reconstruction with cutting guides].

INTRODUCTION: Reconstruction of craniofacial defects due to traumatic injuries is a challenge for a reconstructive surgeon, given the functional impact, the aesthetic impact and the geometric complexity of the craniofacial skeleton. The use of cutting and repositioning guides enables a new approach from the craniofacial reconstruction with bone grafts on measure. We are presented to illustrate this technique the case of a patient. OBSERVATION: The patient was 50 years old, he presented a traumatic facial sequelar: a left frontal craniofacial deformation, an enlarged left orbit with enophthalm

A small aneurysmal bone cyst restricted to the cortical bone of the femur resembling so-called subperiosteal giant cell tumor or subperiosteal osteoclasia.

We report a 16-year-old Japanese girl with a cystic lesion restricted to the cortical bone under the periosteum of the diaphysis of the left femur. Roentgenograms showed a long, oval translucent lesion in frontal view and an eccentric erosive lesion in lateral view. Computed tomography showed a distinct intracortical lesion. The lesion, which was excised en bloc, measured 3 x 2 x 2 cm. The outer layer of the cortical bone was eroded eccentrically. From the margin of the eroded bone, thin fragile bony tissue and preserved periosteum extended like the roof of a dome. Multicystic structures, fill
