A simplified sutureless Müllerectomy for ptosis repair: a case series.

PURPOSE: Müller's muscle-conjunctival resection (MMCR) is a well-established posterior approach to correct mild to moderate ptosis. Traditional methods involve resection of a measured segment of Müller's muscle and conjunctiva, followed by the approximation of resected edges with sutures. In recent years, various sutureless MMCR techniques have been reported. Here, we describe and evaluate a modified sutureless approach that eliminates the need for specialized instruments. METHODS: A retrospective case series was conducted to evaluate outcomes of patients who underwent sutureless MMCR ptosis

Amelanotic Melanocytic Nevus of the Oral Cavity: A Case Report and Literature Review.

Amelanotic melanocytic nevi of the oral cavity are uncommon lesions that often present a diagnostic challenge for clinicians, primarily due to their nonspecific clinical appearance and the broad spectrum of possible differential diagnoses. These lesions can mimic a variety of benign and malignant conditions, requiring precise histopathological confirmation. The primary objective of this article is to present a comprehensive case report-tracing the course from initial presentation through diagnostic workup to final diagnosis-and to provide an overview of the current literature on oral amelanoti

Spongiotic gingival hyperplasia: identifying new mechanisms and a survey of clinical approach.

OBJECTIVE: Spongiotic gingival hyperplasia (SGH) or localized juvenile spongiotic gingival hyperplasia (LJSGH) is a rare, benign, soft tissue oral lesion that shares overlapping clinical characteristics with more common reactive gingival lesions found in adolescents. SGH is clinically unrelated to the accumulation of plaque, and treatment by periodontal debridement and improved oral hygiene measures are ineffective. Currently, the etiology and pathogenesis of SGH are unknown. The objectives of this study are: (1) to assess the ability of clinicians to recognize and manage SGH compared with oth

Single-stage repair of large full thickness lower eyelid defects using free tarsoconjunctival graft and transposition flap: experience and outcomes.

BACKGROUND: Lid-sharing approaches are often advocated for repair of large full thickness lower eyelid defects, however result in temporary visual obstruction and the need for a second-stage procedure. The authors describe and report outcomes using a one-stage technique utilizing a free tarsoconjunctival graft (TCG) and musculocutaneous transposition flap (MCT) to repair defects up to 90% of the lower eyelid. METHODS: A retrospective chart review on patients that had undergone full thickness lower eyelid reconstruction using a TCG and MCT between the dates of 1/1/2015 to 3/1/2020 was performe

Clinical Profile of Cutaneous Adverse Effects of Epidermal Growth Factor Receptor Inhibitors: A Prospective Observational Study of 76 Cases.

BACKGROUND: Epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) inhibitors are an extensively utilized class of chemotherapeutic agents which form an integral component of treatment in solid organ malignancies such as non-small-cell lung carcinoma, pancreatic carcinoma, colorectal carcinoma, and head and neck carcinoma. It has two subclasses: epidermal growth factor inhibitors (erlotinib) and monoclonal antibody (cetuximab). A wide array of cutaneous adverse effects has been attributed to this class of drugs, such as papulopustular eruptions, paronychia, xerosis, and changes in hair and nails. MATERIALS

Quantitative evaluation of microvessel density using CD34 in clinical variants of ameloblastoma: An immunohistochemical study.

BACKGROUND: Odontogenic epithelium plays an important role in the histogenesis of odontogenic tumors of the jaws. Ameloblastomas, which arise from odontogenic epithelium, are considered benign with little tendency to metastasize. Tumors require an adequate supply of oxygen and a way to remove their waste products. This can be achieved by angiogenesis. In situ quantification of the microvessel density (MVD) is a usual method for assessing angiogenesis. Moreover, angiogenesis may differ in subtypes of ameloblastomas and could play a role in determining the pattern of tumor growth. AIM: The aim

Circular Excision and Purse-String Closure for Pediatric Facial Skin Lesions.

Standard resection of pediatric facial skin lesions consists of lenticular excision and linear closure. This one-stage procedure for circular lesions results in a linear scar 3 times longer than the diameter of the removed specimen. Circular excision and purse-string closure has been described for infantile hemangiomas to reduce the length of scar. The purpose of this study was to analyze the application of this technique for any type of circular facial skin lesion in the pediatric population. Records of consecutive pediatric patients with facial skin lesions treated with circular excision and

The spectrum of gnathic osteosarcoma: caveats for the clinician and the pathologist.

Seven expansile jaw lesions in patients ranging from 7 to 63 years are presented to illustrate diagnostic and management issues pertaining to cases ultimately proven to be gnathic osteosarcoma (GO). Six of the cases in our series were low-grade osteoblastic and one high-grade chondroblastic. None of our cases exhibited the characteristic "sunburst" radiopaque appearance described for GO. All of our cases displayed cortical expansion and one showed development of diastema. Two occurred in the maxilla and five in the mandible. Two of the patients with mandibular lesions presented initially with

Pseudomalignant perineurial invasion in cellular ('infantile') capillary haemangiomas.

One hundred and sixty-eight cellular ('infantile') capillary haemangiomas were assessed for the presence of perineurial invasion, a feature that can lead to the erroneous diagnosis of malignancy. Fourteen tumours (8%) showed unequivocal, usually prominent, involvement of small and medium sized nerves. Eleven of these lesions presented in infants at birth or shortly thereafter, two in young adults and one in a middle-aged adult. Ten patients were females. Ten of the lesions arose in the head and neck region, one in the arm, one in the chest wall, and in two the site was not stated. Follow-up re

Differential localization of type I and type III procollagen messenger ribonucleic acids in inflamed periodontal and periapical connective tissues by in situ hybridization.

Inflammatory lesions of periodontal and periapical connective tissue were studied by in situ hybridization to detect cells responsible for type I and type III collagen production. Formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue specimens from patients with oral lesions of various stages of inflammation were hybridized with cDNA probes specific for human pro alpha 1(I) and pro alpha 1(III) collagen mRNAs, and with bacteriophage lambda DNA as a control probe. This technique permitted us to localize fibroblasts active in type I collagen synthesis in the vicinity of inflammatory infiltrates in all the
