Polymorphisms in the gene encoding sterile 20/SPS1-related proline/alanine-rich kinase (SPAK) associate with hypertension susceptibility in humans. A study was made of the blood plasma renin activity in 63 patients suffering from thyrotoxicosis before the treatment and in 42 healthy individuals. The acute effects of angiotensin converting enzyme inhibition on the renal function and urinary prostanoids were studied.
