Male pseudohermaphroditism is a sex differentiation disorder in which the gonads are testes and the genital ducts are incompletely masculinized. An 8 years old dog with normal male karyotype was referred for examination of external genitalia abnormalities. Adjacent to the vulva subcutaneous undescended testes were observed. The histology of the gonads revealed a Leydig and Sertoli cell neoplasia. The contemporaneous presence of testicular tissue, vulva, male karyotype were compatible with a male pseudohermaphrodite (MPH) condition.

A total of 15 gonadal stromal tumors in prepubertal boys has been reported to the Prepubertal Testicular Tumor Registry of the Section on Urology of the American Academy of Pediatrics. Leydig cell tumors invariably are benign and patients usually present with precocious puberty when they are 5 to 9 years old. Other gonadal stromal tumors either present in infancy as a scrotal mass and exhibit a benign behavior or occur later in childhood and may be malignant.

We report on a 19 year old patient with clinical signs of hypogonadism (small testicles, missing pollutions and diminished beard growth) despite of normal testosterone levels. Further diagnostic procedures revealed panhypopituitarism with insufficiency of the gonadotrope, somatotrope and corticotrope axis due to a beta-HCG-producing suprasellar germinoma with intracerebral metastases. The expression of three isoforms of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) were examined in the testis and epididymis of a thoroughbred horse. Gonadal dysgenesis are classified according to the aspect of external genitalia. The group with female genitalia includes Turner's syndrome, and "pure" dysgenesis; the group with male genitalia involves Klinefelter's syndrome, XX males and may be anorchia; the group with ambiguous genitalia includes "mixed" gonadal dysgenesis, true hermaphroditism and Leydig-cell agenesis. An algorythmic approach to patients with ambiguous external genitalia is presented in order to distinguish between gonadal dysgenesis and male or female pseudohermaphroditism.

Anti-Müllerian hormone (AMH) plays a major role in sexual differentiation, Leydig cell differentiation, and folliculogenesis. In addition, AMH has clinical value in equine practice.
