A 37- year old male with a long history of a left orbital venous/lympathic malformation presented with ocular injection, increased proptosis and reduced left vision. Angiography demonstrated a carotid cavernous dural AV fistula combined with a concomitant venous/lymphatic malformation. After attempts at transvenous embolization, a direct uncomplicated transorbital puncture of the cavernous sinus via a lateral orbitotomy was performed with complete resolution of ocular symptoms.

There were investigated 22 cases from which the thymic tissue was removed either during surgery for cardiovascular malformations (n = 14), or for myasthenia gravis (n = 8). Histological sections were stained with routine morphologic methods, and immunohistochemistry was performed for cytokeratin, CD20, CD3, and S100 protein. Aspects characteristic for thymus involution were found in 11 cases without myasthenia gravis and in all cases with myasthenia gravis. Morphological changes of the thymus of involution are age-dependent. There were characterized stages of involution, with special reference

BACKGROUND: Lipedema is a chronic disorder characterized by excessive, bilateral, and symmetrical deposition of subcutaneous adipose tissue, predominantly in the lower extremities. Despite its prevalence, lipedema is frequently misdiagnosed as lymphedema, and lymphoscintigraphy is commonly used to differentiate between the two. This systematic review synthesizes the available evidence regarding the most common lymphoscintigraphy findings in patients with lipedema.
METHODS: This systematic review was conducted in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Ana

INTRODUCTION: Lymphangioleiomyomatosis (LAM) is a rare, progressive, multisystem disease primarily affecting women of reproductive age. It is characterized by the abnormal proliferation of smooth muscle-like LAM cells that infiltrate the lungs, lymphatics, and kidneys. This case highlights that the clinical value lies not in isolated features, but in the convergence of early gestational presentation, severe bilateral disease, diagnostic limitations, and the need for coordinated multidisciplinary decision-making in a resource-constrained setting.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 23-year-old pregnant woman

Parkinson's Disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the pathological accumulation of alpha-synuclein (α-syn) in the neuronal cell bodies of the substantia nigra. The glymphatic system within the Central Nervous System (CNS) is responsible for clearing metabolic waste and abnormal proteins and its dysfunction may significantly contribute to the pathogenesis of PD. Our previous study showed that OAB-14, the novel small molecular compound, showed a great potential effect in APP/PS1 transgenic mice. Given the similarities in the pathogenesis of PD and Alzheimer's disease (AD)

Delayed closure of the ductus arteriosus (DA) is not uncommon in infants with Down syndrome (DS). This retrospective study aimed to clarify the timing of DA closure in DS patients. A total of 101 DS patients born at ≥ 34 weeks' gestation hospitalized over the past 7 years were enrolled. None had received cyclooxygenase inhibitors. Eighty-two patients (81%) had spontaneous DA closure, with no significant difference in the rate of closure based on gestational age. Of these, spontaneous DA closure occurred within the first 3 days in 22%, between days 4-7 in 30%, between 1-2 weeks in 26%, between

For clinically node-negative (cN0) breast cancer patients with sonographically suspicious lymph nodes (iN+) but negative fine-needle aspiration cytology (N0(f)), sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) remains the first-line approach for axillary staging. However, most of these patients ultimately demonstrate SLN-negative pathology, highlighting a critical need for a risk stratification to safely reduce unnecessary SLNB procedures. To address this unmet clinical challenge, we developed a preoperative risk stratification model integrating clinicopathological and ultrasonographic features. This prospe

Osteopathic manipulative medicine (OMM) has a growing recognition in serving as an effective treatment to promote adaptation and homeostasis of the body by addressing musculoskeletal, neural, vascular, and lymphatic structures to promote self-healing and regulation. OMM can treat the musculoskeletal tension and sympathetic hyperactivity resulting from the increased cortisol response and hypersensitivity found in varying psychiatric illnesses, including anorexia nervosa (AN). This paper addresses the considerations necessary for treating AN patients with OMM, emphasizing the need to evaluate th

Background: Secondary upper extremity lymphedema occurs after an insult such as surgery. One theory suggests underlying lymphatic dysfunction predisposing certain patients into developing secondary lymphedema. We aim to determine the rate of incidental edema in the contralateral upper extremity of patients with secondary unilateral lymphedema. Methods and Results: MRI of the upper extremities were obtained in patients with lymphedema who were referred by a lymphedema clinic from 2017 to 2019. Axial short-tau inversion recovery MR images of the symptomatic and contralateral arms were retrospect

AIM: To describe the clinical and hemodynamic characteristics of Fontan failure in children listed for heart transplant.
METHODS: In a nested study of the Pediatric Heart Transplant Society, 16 centers contributed information on Fontan patients listed for heart transplant between 2005and 2013. Patients were classified into four mutually exclusive phenotypes: Fontan with abnormal lymphatics (FAL), Fontan with reduced systolic function (FRF), Fontan with preserved systolic function (FPF), and Fontan with "normal" hearts (FNH). Primary outcome was waitlist and post-transplant mortality.

Initially, the progression of chronic venous insufficiency is related to venous hypertension. The earliest complaints or symptoms, as well as vessel wall deterioration, valve restructuring, and, eventually, varicose veins, result not only from elevation of pressure, but also from a cascade of biochemical events related to both the macro- and the microcirculation. Thickening and remodelling of the venous wall are influenced by two parameters: abnormal shear stress and hypoxia that activate the endothelium first at the level of valve cusps and then in large veins. Hypoxia leads to activation of

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study was to analyze the incidence and primary causes of distal ileal wall thickening in 131 patients with right-sided colon cancer.
SUBJECTS AND METHODS: During a 2-year period, 131 patients underwent surgical resection for right-sided colon cancer. Of these patients, we analyzed 13 who had distal ileal wall thickening on CT before surgery and also had the cause determined at pathology. CT findings were analyzed with regard to the morphologic features of colonic tumors, bowel wall involvement patterns of the distal ileum, and changes in the pericolic space.

The cell cycle regulatory protein cyclin D1 is essential for G1-S phase transition in several epithelial and mesenchymal tissues but is apparently not essential in normal mature B cells. An overexpression of cyclin D1 is induced by the chromosomal translocation t(11;14)(q13;q32), which characterizes non-Hodgkin's lymphomas (NHLs) of mantle cell type. We studied 26 cases of mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) for the expression of cyclins D1 and D3. A total of 23 lymphomas showed a nuclear staining for cyclin D1, whereas reactive B cells of residual germinal centers were constantly negative. When compar

BACKGROUND: Elevated stearoyl-CoA desaturase activity has been described in obese states, with an increased desaturation index (DI) suggesting enhanced lipogenesis. Differences in the DI among various phenotypes of abnormal adiposity have not been studied. Abnormal accumulation of subcutaneous adipose tissue occurs in rare adipose disorders (RADs) including Dercum's disease (DD), multiple symmetric lipomatosis (MSL), and familial multiple lipomatosis (FML). Examining the DI in subcutaneous fat of people with DD, MSL and FML may provide information on adipose tissue fatty acid metabolism in the

INTRODUCTION: Craniosynostosis is the premature fusion of 1 or more of the cranial sutures, which causes an abnormal skull shape. The treatment is complex and requires surgical intervention for correction, between 3 and 12 months of age. The current standard for diagnosing craniosynostosis is to obtain a computed tomographic (CT) scan. However, recent studies have emphasized potential problems associated with ionizing radiation. The aim of this study was to evaluate the use of the preoperative CT scan, and its findings, and to define the value of these data.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: This study

Sarcoidosis is a multisystemic disorder of unknown cause characterized by the formation of immune granulomas in involved organs. It is an ubiquitous disease with incidence (varying according to age, sex, race and geographic origin) estimated at around 16.5/100,000 in men and 19/100,000 in women. The lung and the lymphatic system are predominantly affected but virtually every organ may be involved. Other severe manifestations result from cardiac, neurological, ocular, kidney or laryngeal localizations. In most cases, sarcoidosis is revealed by persistent dry cough, eye or skin manifestations, p
