A Deep Learning Model Based on the Bi-LSTM Neural Networks with Self-attention Mechanism to Enhance the Blood Flow Sensor's Ability to Track Fluctuating Flow Rate.

Blood flow sensors based on thermal sensing principles are widely used for health monitoring, but they produce large errors when tracking fluctuating blood flow rate (BFR). In order to enhance the ability of these sensors to track BFR, this study establishes a deep learning model based on the bidirectional long short-term memory network with self-attention mechanism (SA-BiLSTM-BFR). The model effect is quantified and evaluated using the middle cerebral artery BFR dataset. Compared with traditional models, the SA-BiLSTM-BFR model reduces the flow prediction root mean square error (RMSEBFR) by 3

Monitoring Airway Resistance for Obstructive Sleep Apnea Using a Leak-Based BiPAP System.

Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is a respiratory disorder characterized by partial or complete upper airway obstruction during sleep, resulting in increased airway resistance. Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) therapy is the standard treatment for OSA, providing continuous pressure to prevent collapsing of the airway. However, PAP systems often struggle to detect partial obstructions. To address this limitation, this paper proposes a method to identify and quantify changes in upper airway resistance by combining a leak-based Bilevel Positive Airway Pressure (BiPAP) system, a developed expiratory mo

Monitoring effort and respiratory drive in patients with acute respiratory failure.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Accurate monitoring of respiratory drive and inspiratory effort is crucial for optimizing ventilatory support during acute respiratory failure. This review evaluates current and emerging bedside methods for assessing respiratory drive and effort. RECENT FINDINGS: While electrical activity of the diaphragm and esophageal pressure remain the reference standards for assessing respiratory drive and effort, their clinical utility is largely limited to research. At the bedside, airway occlusion maneuvers are the most useful tools: P0.1 is a reliable marker of drive and detects ab

Precise monitoring of transpulmonic resistance in bridge-to-transplant patients supported by the Aeson total artificial heart.

The Aeson total artificial heart (TAH) features embedded pressure sensors for flow autoregulation, which can also be used to estimate pressure gradients. In this bridge-to-transplant study, right and left ventricular pressure data and pump output from the TAH were analyzed to estimate transpulmonic resistance (eTPR) every 30 days. Three patients (aged 60, 35, and 54) with preimplant pulmonary vascular resistance of 7.0, 3.2, and 7.1 Wood Units, respectively, were supported by the TAH at pump outputs of 4.5 to 6.5 liter/min. All showed significant eTPR reductions (1.4-1.5 Wood Units) and receiv

Severe ozone pollution drives physiological stress in winter wheat: Evidence from satellite-based chlorophyll fluorescence analysis.

Understanding the impact of ozone (O3) pollution on photosynthesis is essential for estimating crop yields and ensuring food security. While remote sensing of Sun-induced chlorophyll fluorescence (SIF) effectively assesses plant stress, most studies have focused on temperature and water deficits, with limited attention to O3-induced chlorophyll degradation. To address this gap, we utilized the SIF data from the TROPOspheric Monitoring Instrument (TROPOMI) to investigate the response of winter wheat to severe O3 stress in China's primary wheat-producing region during 2019-2023, a period marked

High-Performance Mechano-Sensitive Piezoelectric Nanogenerator from Post-Treated Nylon-11,11 Textiles for Energy Harvesting and Human Motion Monitoring.

Piezoelectric polymer textiles offer distinct advantages in the fabrication of wearable nanogenerators (NGs). One effective strategy to enhance the output capacity of NGs is to modulate the piezoelectric performance of the textiles. This paper focuses on further improving the piezoelectric properties of nylon-11,11 textiles through post-drawing and annealing treatments. We elucidate the evolution of morphology and the ferroelectric phase in the submicron/nanoscale fibers during post processing as well as the corresponding changes in performance. The drawing process primarily enhances the orien
