BACKGROUND: The prognostic significance of nodal involvement is not well established in head and neck mucosal melanoma (HNMM).
METHODS: A retrospective, monocentric study was performed on 96 patients with HNMM treated between 2000 and 2017.
RESULTS: At diagnosis, seventeen patients (17.8%) were cN1, with a higher risk for HNMM arising from the oral cavity (p = 0.01). cN status had no prognostic value in patients with nonmetastatic resectable HNMM. A 58-year-old man was admitted to our hospital with fever and neck swelling after dental treatment. He was diagnosed with a cervical abscess and underwent cervical abscess drainage, but 1 week later he developed descending necrotizing mediastinitis and was referred to our department. He underwent mediastinal and pleural drainage, but neck abscess was recured, Re-debridment of the neck abscess resulted in bleeding from right subclavian vein. The acute ischemic leg may be an important clue to the diagnosis of a dissecting aneurysm. Seventeen of 65 patients with dissecting aneurysms presented with this picture. The ischemic leg was often the dominant feature and obscured the correct diagnosis. The possibility of aortic dissection should be considered in any patient with an acutely ischemic leg, especially if there is any accompanying chest, neck, or back discomfort. BACKGROUND: Continuous sub-superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS) dissection in the cheek with subplatysmal dissection in the neck is an important feature of many face-lift techniques, yet the neural anatomy in this area remains unclear, and recommendations regarding continuous dissection of these adjacent areas vary widely. The purpose of this study was to define the vulnerability of the facial nerve branches in this transitional area from the face-lift surgeon's perspective and to specifically identify the location of the cervical branch penetration through the deep cervical fascia.

A review of a series of 63 patients suggests that a high incidence of recurrence occurs following surgery for this condition. Histological examination demonstrates that this is due to failure to remove the central portion of hyoid bone and inadequate dissection of the tract into the tongue base. To overcome these problems, an en bloc anterior neck dissection is recommended which will encompass multiple duct formation associated with the tract.
