Oxytocin Modulates Inhibitory Control via Neural-Temporal Mechanisms.

Inhibitory control is frequently impaired under anxiety, yet the temporal dynamics through which oxytocin (OXT) modulates this process remain poorly understood. This randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled pharmacological event-related potential (ERP) study investigated how intranasal OXT (24 IU) influences neural and behavioral correlates of inhibitory control under threat-of-shock (anxiety) and safe conditions in 100 healthy male university students. Participants performed an interference-inhibition working memory task requiring attention to either emotional faces (social) or house scen

Oculometric Measurement of Concussion Magnitude in Professional Baseball Catchers.

Background/Objectives: Due to their positions, professional baseball catchers are at elevated risk of concussion, which can impair visual processing. There is a need for sensitive sensorimotor monitoring tools to track concussion-related neurophysiological changes more accurately. We investigated whether oculometrics can address this need. Methods: Four Major League Baseball catchers completed an oculometric assessment shortly after suffering a concussion (Time 1) and again after completing vision rehabilitation (Time 2). The assessment produces 10 z-scored measures, including a summary score.

TinnitusLLM: A Multimodal Large Language Model Framework for Tinnitus Diagnosis Through EEG-fMRI Fusion Learning.

Accurate tinnitus diagnosis is crucial for enabling timely therapeutic intervention and longitudinal treatment monitoring. While non-invasive neuroimaging modalities-particularly electroencephalography (EEG) with millisecond temporal resolution and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) with millimeter spatial resolution- provide complementary neural features, existing diagnostic approaches remain constrained to unimodal analysis of EEG or fMRI data, inherently limiting diagnostic precision and clinical generalizability. This paper introduces TinnitusLLM, the first multimodal large langu

Predictors of Neurotoxicity in a Large Cohort of Italian Patients Undergoing Anti-CD19 Chimeric Antigen Receptor (CAR) T-Cell Therapy.

BACKGROUND: Anti-CD19 chimeric antigen receptor (CAR) T-cell therapy is an innovative and effective treatment for patients with B-cell hematological malignancies. Despite its high efficacy, it has been associated with the development of acute toxicities that can be severe or even fatal. Indeed, cytokine release syndrome (CRS) and immune effector cell-associated neurotoxicity syndrome (ICANS) can induce significant morbidity and require close monitoring. Identification of clinical and laboratory markers able to predict the occurrence of ICANS may allow prompt recognition and more effective mana

Evaluation of autonomic dysfunction in hereditary transthyretin amyloidosis.

BACKGROUND: Autonomic dysfunction is a common manifestation of hereditary transthyretin (ATTRv) amyloidosis that frequently appears early and has a major impact on disease severity, survival, and quality of life. Early detection of autonomic symptoms is paramount to avoid delayed diagnosis or misdiagnosis of ATTRv amyloidosis and thereby achieve timely interventions with novel therapies. We thus require a better understanding and recognition of the warning signs of autonomic nervous system involvement in patients with ATTRv amyloidosis. DEVELOPMENT: According to the literature and the experti

The role of neuromuscular ultrasound in diagnostics of peripheral neuropathies induced by cytostatic agents or immunotherapies.

A relevant number of cancer patients who receive potentially neurotoxic cytostatic agents develop a chemotherapy-induced peripheral neuropathy over time. Moreover, the increasing use of immunotherapies and targeted agents leads to a raising awareness of treatment-associated peripheral neurotoxicity, e.g., axonal and demyelinating neuropathies such as Guillain-Barré-like syndromes. To date, the differentiation of these phenomena from concurrent neurological co-morbidities or (para-)neoplastic nerve affection as well as their longitudinal monitoring remain challenging. Neuromuscular ultrasound (

Central motor and sensory conduction in patients with hepatic myelopathy.

STUDY DESIGN: Experimental neurophysiological study. OBJECTIVES: The hepatic myelopathy (HM) is characterized by progressive weakness and spasticity of the lower extremities, while there are only a few reports of sensory impairment. However, sensory function has been poorly explored in HM. We believe that an electrophysiological assessment of dorsal columns by somatosensory evoked potentials (SEPs) and of cortico-spinal lateral tracts by motor evoked potentials (MEPs) should be of considerable value in the functional evaluation of the spinal cord involvement in patients with HM. SETTING: Sal

[Current advances in spinal vascular disease].

During treatment of spinal arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), such as dural arteriovenous fistula (AVF), perimedullary AVF, and intramedullary AVM, it is often difficult to identify the feeding artery and draining vein because of presence of multiple dilated veins in the dural space and multiple shunts. Disruption of incorrect vessels may elicit major functional deficits in the spinal cord. To avoid such complications, it is extremely important to identify the correct vessels prior to and during surgical treatment. Recently, several types of techniques have been developed for diagnosis and tr

From early to contemporary normative modeling: Mapping individual differences in neurophysiological signals.

Normative modeling has become a cornerstone of computational neuroscience, offering a powerful framework for detecting individual deviations from typical brain function. This review traces its trajectory in electrophysiology of the brain, from early studies in the 1970s, through a period of relative neglect, to its recent revival driven by machine learning advances and the availability of large-scale datasets. We provide a structured overview of this evolution, showing the shift from small, site-specific age-based models to increasingly harmonized approaches that integrate diverse biological a
