INTRODUCTION: A pathological fracture appears after a low-energy trauma or minor trauma on bones with a modified histological structure; sometimes, the patient reports shoulder pain antedating the fracture. The most common benign bone tumors that cause pathological fractures in children are simple bone cysts, aneurysmal bone cysts, non-ossifying fibromas and fibrous dysplasia. This type of bone tumors is usually asymptomatic until they reach a large size and cause a pathological fracture after minor trauma. The optimal treatment remains controversial. Our objective was to describe our modern t

Routine morphological tests were conducted on biopsy pieces dye stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin, standard technique, the van Gieson trichromic staining, the Giemsa staining, the AA-PAS staining and the immunoreaction methods. AIMS: Spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) is a life-limiting paediatric motor neuron disease characterised by lower motor neuron loss, skeletal muscle atrophy and respiratory failure, if untreated. Revolutionary treatments now extend patient survival. However, a limited understanding of the foundational neuropathology challenges the evaluation of therapeutic success. As opportunities to study treatment-naïve tissue decrease, we have characterised spinal cord pathology in severe infantile SMA using gold-standard techniques, providing a baseline to measure treatment success and therapeutic limitations…

Malaria infection causes multiple organ-specific lethal pathologies, including cerebral malaria, and severe liver and lung pathologies by inducing strong inflammatory responses. Gene polymorphism studies suggest that TLR4 and TLR2 contribute to severe malaria, but the roles of these signaling molecules in malaria pathogenesis remain incompletely understood. We hypothesize that danger-associated molecular patterns produced in response to malaria activate TLR2 and TLR4 signaling and contribute to liver and lung pathologies. By using a mouse model of Plasmodium berghei NK65 infection, we show tha

Alzheimer's disease is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by progressive decline in memory, loss of professional skills, impairment of judgement and behavior, and decline in social performances. In terms of neuropathology, the morphological hallmarks of the disease are the accumulation of alpha-beta peptide and the neurofibrillary degeneration, associated with synaptic alterations, involving mostly the dendritic spines. This study is based on the morphological analysis of 10 brains, 5 of which were obtained from patients who suffered from Alzheimer's disease and 5 from nondemented seni…
