PURPOSE: We review our experience with 42 consecutive patients undergoing the bone anchored male sling procedure.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A retrospective chart review was performed, and complete data and followup were available in 38 of the 42 patients. Success was defined as wearing 1 thin pad or less per day, or social continence. The aim of the study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of TVT (tension-free vaginal tape) for the surgical treatment of stress urinary incontinence. BACKGROUND: Limb exoprosthetics in veterinary medicine are less developed than in human medicine. This case study evaluates four custom-made hindlimb exoprostheses for a 6-year-old dog following metatarsal amputation due to a train accident.
METHODS: After wound healing, four exoprostheses-differing in measurement methods and materials-were tested over 4 weeks, each for 1 week. Assessment tools included force plate measurements, accelerometer-based activity tracking and owner feedback. We identified and quantified bisphenol A (BPA), a known estrogen-like endocrine disruptor, in disposable face mask samples collected in Hong Kong. Results revealed that BPA is a common contaminant in face masks, with concentrations reaching up to 2 μg/mask. Although polypropylene, the primary material used in mask production, is generally considered to be BPA-free, the contaminant likely originates from additives, such as flame retardants, added during manufacturing.
