BACKGROUND: The COVID-19 pandemic presented unprecedented challenges to households throughout the world, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Pakistan's COVID-19 management policies have been widely recognized for their effectiveness at both national and international levels.
OBJECTIVE: In this study, we empirically examine households' response to external shocks, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, and the coping mechanisms adopted at the household level in Pakistan.
METHODS: Based on Rational Choice Theory, the research examines 3456 households, encompassing both urban and rural ar

BACKGROUND: Chagas disease, or American trypanosomiasis, is an important neglected tropical illness caused by the flagellate protozoan Trypanosoma cruzi, which is primarily transmitted to humans by hematophagous insects of the subfamily Triatominae. Although knowledge on triatomine movement capabilities at the micro-geographical scale is of fundamental importance concerning the development of effective vector control strategies, it remains a poorly understood subject. Furthermore, survival rates and size estimates of natural populations are important topics to consider when evaluating transmis

Motivated by empirical evidence on the interplay between geography, population density and societal interaction, we propose a generative process for the evolution of social structure in cities. Our analytical and simulation results predict both super-linear scaling of social-tie density and information contagion as a function of the population. Here we demonstrate that our model provides a robust and accurate fit for the dependency of city characteristics with city-size, ranging from individual-level dyadic interactions (number of acquaintances, volume of communication) to population level var

During the last 3 decades, efforts to deal with population problems in Korea have focused largely on reducing population growth. The national population control program has been a major means of achieving this goal. Between the early 1960s and 1990, evidence from a national survey indicates that the percent of current use of contraception rose from about 12% to 80% and the total fertility rate fell to 1.6. representing 1 of the most rapid fertility transitions in the developing world. In conjunction with this rapid reduction in fertility, mortality also improved significantly during this perio
