Outcome-specific risk factors challenge universal dementia prevention priorities: Findings from the Egyptian Dementia Network Registry.

BACKGROUND: Dementia prevention targets modifiable factors from high-income cohorts, but most studies conflate dementia status and cognitive performance, distinct outcomes with potentially different outcomes. This distinction is critical to disentangle in resource-constrained low- and middle-income countries, where resource prioritization requires context-specific evidence. METHODS: Cross-sectional analysis of 660 adults with dementia/mild cognitive impairment from the Egyptian Dementia Network registry (2022 to 2025). Parallel logistic/linear regression models identified factors associated w

The role of wellbeing literacy in enhancing college students' mental health: evidence from a dual-factor model.

This study investigates the role of wellbeing literacy as part of a dual-factor model of mental health in Chinese college students. Utilising latent profile analysis (LPA) with data from over 11 000 participants, the research identifies four distinct mental health profiles: complete mental health, vulnerable, symptomatic with high WBL, and troubled. These categories highlight the diversity in mental health status among the students, influenced by demographic factors such as gender, age, and social circles. The findings reveal that female students and those with fewer friends are more likely to

Service capacity of institutions serving the mental health needs of persons living with HIV in Georgia.

This study mapped the availability, integration, and referral patterns of mental health (MH) and substance use disorder (SUD) services for people living with HIV (PLWH) in Georgia. PLWH face a heightened burden of MH conditions, compounded by systemic and social barriers. In Georgia, these challenges are exacerbated by fragmented healthcare system, centralized HIV care, and limited service integration. Cross-sectional survey was conducted between January-August 2024 using a structured questionnaire distributed to 80 institutions across 11 regions of Georgia, including MH centers, HIV-focused N

Deep-Learning-Based Analysis Reveals a Social Behavior Deficit in Mice Exposed Prenatally to Nicotine.

Cigarette smoking during pregnancy is known to be associated with the incidence of attention-deficit/hyperactive disorder (ADHD). Recent developments in deep learning algorithms enable us to assess the behavioral phenotypes of animal models without cognitive bias during manual analysis. In this study, we established prenatal nicotine exposure (PNE) mice and evaluated their behavioral phenotypes using DeepLabCut and SimBA. We optimized the training parameters of DeepLabCut for pose estimation and succeeded in labeling a single-mouse or two-mouse model with high fidelity during free-moving behav

Network intervention analysis of a school-based gaming disorder prevention program in Hong Kong primary school students.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: The growing prevalence of gaming disorder has prompted the emergence of early prevention programs. While previous evaluations assessed overall efficacy, the specific symptom-level changes following program participation remain unknown. This study addressed the gap using network intervention analysis (NIA) to investigate how a newly validated prevention program, the Digital Netizen Alliance, was associated with changes in the network components of gaming disorder symptoms. METHODS: In a school-clustered design, a sample of 600 Chinese Primary 4 to 6 students (48% female, a

Indigenous health worker support for patients with poorly controlled type 2 diabetes: study protocol for a cluster randomised controlled trial of the Mana Tū programme.

INTRODUCTION: Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and its complications are more common among Māori and Pacific people compared with other ethnic groups in New Zealand. Comprehensive and sustained approaches that address social determinants of health are required to address this condition, including culturally specific interventions. Currently, New Zealand has no comprehensive T2DM management programme for Māori or Pacific people. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The Mana Tū programme was developed by a Māori-led collaborative of primary healthcare workers and researchers, and codesigned with whānau (patien

New insights into mechanisms of valproic acid-induced neurodevelopmental toxicity in autism spectrum disorder: An integrative network toxicology approach combined with in vivo validation.

Autism spectrum disorder (ASD) is a neurodevelopmental condition with growing evidence linking its etiology to chemical exposures, including valproic acid. This study employed an integrative approach combining network toxicology, molecular docking, Mendelian randomization (MR), GEO data analysis, and experimental validation to systematically elucidate the mechanisms of valproic acid (VPA)-induced neurodevelopmental toxicity in ASD. Computational toxicity predictions identified hepatotoxicity, respiratory toxicity, and pronounced blood-brain barrier penetration as key features of VPA. Network t

A voxel-based lesion study on facial emotion recognition after penetrating brain injury.

The ability to read emotions in the face of another person is an important social skill that can be impaired in subjects with traumatic brain injury (TBI). To determine the brain regions that modulate facial emotion recognition, we conducted a whole-brain analysis using a well-validated facial emotion recognition task and voxel-based lesion symptom mapping (VLSM) in a large sample of patients with focal penetrating TBIs (pTBIs). Our results revealed that individuals with pTBI performed significantly worse than normal controls in recognizing unpleasant emotions. VLSM mapping results showed that

Impaired Neural Pattern Separation During Implicit Emotion Regulation in PTSD: An MVPA fMRI Study.

Implicit emotion regulation (IER) operates automatically and supports adaptive social-affective functioning. Although PTSD involves marked IER disturbances, the large-scale functional connectivity architecture supporting implicit emotional processing remains unclear. The Shifted Attention Emotion Appraisal Task (SEAT) offers an ecologically relevant framework for probing these processes. One hundred twenty-three adults (PTSD: n = 78; trauma-exposed controls: n = 45) completed fMRI during SEAT. Whole-brain functional connectivity multivariate pattern analysis (fc-MVPA) identified data-driven, c

A snapshot of the lives of women with polycystic ovary syndrome: A photovoice investigation.

Polycystic ovary syndrome affects 6  percent of women. Symptoms include hirsutism, acne, and infertility. This research explores the impact of polycystic ovary syndrome on women's lives using photovoice. Nine participants photographed objects related to their quality of life and made diary entries explaining each photograph. Three themes emerged from thematic analysis of the diaries: control (of symptoms and polycystic ovary syndrome controlling their lives), perception (of self, others, and their situation), and support (from relationships, health care systems, and education). These findings
