Mesenchymal Stem Cells Alleviate Mouse Sepsis-Induced Cardiomyopathy by Inhibiting the NR1D2/LCN2 Pathway.

Sepsis is characterized as a systemic inflammatory response syndrome resulting from infection, leading to the development of multiple organ dysfunction syndrome. Sepsis-induced cardiomyopathy (SICM) is a frequently encountered condition in clinical settings. Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) possess inherent immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory attributes, rendering them a promising therapeutic approach to reestablish the equilibrium between anti-inflammatory and proinflammatory systems in septic patients. Consequently, MSCs are frequently employed in clinical investigations. In this study, the …

Kawasaki disease.

Kawasaki disease, a pathologic syndrome known to occur in children, was first described in 1967 as mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome by Kawasaki. The disease occurs chiefly in infants under 4 years of age, presenting with symptoms similar to scarlet fever or Stevens-Johnson syndrome. The changes are found at postmortem and consist of multiple aneurysms and thrombosis, which occur predominantly in the coronary arteries and are responsible for sudden death in most cases. Kawasaki disease is a systemic, acute inflammatory disease entity and in the early stages shows diffuse, necrotizing necrosis.

Effect of parenteral infusion of fish oil-based lipid emulsion on systemic inflammatory cytokines and lung eicosanoid levels in experimental acute pancreatitis.

UNLABELLED: Parenteral fish oil lipid emulsion (FOLE) might mitigate inflammation after injury. Acute pancreatitis (AP) can occur following major surgery and is characterized by tissue and systemic release of inflammatory mediators that contributes to the systemic inflammatory response syndrome and multiple organ failure. AIM: We evaluated the effect of short-term FOLE infusion before experimental induction of AP on systemic cytokine and lung eicosanoid profiles. METHODS: Lewis rats (n = 72) received parenteral infusion of FOLE (FO group) or saline (SS group), or remained without parenteral …

Genetic insights into MIS-C Post-COVID-19 in Kuwaiti children: investigating monogenic factors.

BACKGROUND: Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a severe complication arising from SARS-CoV-2 infection, with indications that rare inborn errors of immunity may play a role in its pathogenesis. Recent studies suggest that genetic predispositions, particularly monogenic forms, could significantly influence the immune responses to SARS-CoV-2 in MIS-C. METHODS: We analysed 24 children under 12 years old, all of whom met the criteria provided by the World Health Organization, 2020 for MIS-C diagnosis, from the Paediatric COVID-19 Registry in Kuwait (PCR-Q8). Demographic and

NT-proBNP course during MIS-C post-COVID-19: an observational study.

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C or PIMS-TS) is a severe disease. N-terminal pro-B-type natriuretic peptide (NT-proBNP) is used for positive and differential diagnosis, diagnosis of complications and severity, and cardiogenic shock prediction. However, contrasting cut-offs have been suggested. The aims of the present study were to compare NT-proBNP values depending on the time of measurement and to describe the NT-proBNP course during the MIS-C episode. The data from a single-centre cohort observational study on the impact of time to diagnosis, defined as the time from firs

Heterozygous BTNL8 variants in individuals with multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C).

Multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) is a rare condition following SARS-CoV-2 infection associated with intestinal manifestations. Genetic predisposition, including inborn errors of the OAS-RNAseL pathway, has been reported. We sequenced 154 MIS-C patients and utilized a novel statistical framework of gene burden analysis, "burdenMC," which identified an enrichment for rare predicted-deleterious variants in BTNL8 (OR = 4.2, 95% CI: 3.5-5.3, P < 10-6). BTNL8 encodes an intestinal epithelial regulator of Vγ4+γδ T cells implicated in regulating gut homeostasis. Enrichment was exc
