If tooth transplantation is to succeed, it is crucial to preserve the vitality of the cells on the root surface of the tooth transplant. Insufficient postoperative nutrition to the cells on the root surface of the tooth transplant was thought to contribute to their devitalization of these cells. Impaired nutrition may be a result of poor contact between the recipient bed and the root surface of the transplanted tooth, and development of an interposed blood clot. To improve postoperative nutrition to the root surface cells, teeth were transplanted to the recipient beds in which the tissues were

Bone morphogenetic proteins (BMP) are secretory signal molecules which have a variety of regulatory functions during morphogenesis and cell differentiation. Teeth are typical examples of vertebrate organs in which development is controlled by sequential and reciprocal signaling between the epithelium and mesenchyme. In addition, tooth development is characterized by formation of mineralized tissues: the bone-like dentin and cementum as well as epithelially derived enamel. We have performed a comparative in situ hybridization analysis of the expression of six different Bmps (Bmp-2 to Bmp-7) sta

UNLABELLED: The traumatized primary teeth have a great clinical significance because it not only have consequences on itself but also on its succedaneous developing permanent teeth due to its close anatomical relationship. The extent of severity is adjudged by the type of trauma and the age of the child at the time of trauma. For instance, avulsion and intrusive injuries present with high percentage of developmental disturbances in permanent teeth than subluxation and extrusive injuries. When considering the age of the child at the time of trauma, consequences are less severe in children over

BACKGROUND: Clinical training outcomes are essential indicators of the quality and effectiveness of undergraduate and postgraduate dental education. Post-core restorations in endodontically treated teeth represent technically demanding procedures that require adequate clinical judgment and manual skills. However, limited evidence exists regarding how operator education level influences the distribution of adverse clinical outcomes in such procedures within dental education settings. This retrospective study aimed to evaluate and compare adverse outcomes of prefabricated metal post-core restora

BACKGROUND: To estimate the amount of supraosseous gingivae (SOG), the soft tissue height from the bone crest to the free gingival margin, that will reform after crown-lengthening surgery, dental professionals have relied on a histologic mean dimension of 3 mm. This figure was derived from an autopsy study, and it represents the average of a significant range of values, from 0.0 to 6.5 mm. Other studies provided information on SOG dimensions; however, it seems that no clinical study in individuals without a history of periodontitis or attachment loss has been made that included all tooth types

Identification of individuals is the mainstay of any forensic investigation especially in cases of mass disasters when mutilated remains are brought for examination. Dental examination helps in establishing the identity of an individual and thus, has played a vital role in forensic investigation process since long. In this regard, description on the role of enamel hypoplasia is limited in the literature. The present article reviews the literature on the enamel hypoplasia and discusses its utility in forensic identification. Enamel hypoplasia is a surface defect of the tooth crown caused by dis…

Dilaceration is the result of a developmental anomaly in which there has been an abrupt change in the axial inclination between the crown and the root of a tooth, but the criteria in the literature for recognizing root dilaceration vary. Two possible causes of dilaceration are trauma and developmental disturbances, and it has also been proposed that it might be associated with some developmental syndromes. Dilaceration can be seen in both the permanent and deciduous dentitions, and it is more commonly found in posterior teeth and in the maxilla. Periapical radiographs are the most appropriate
