UNLABELLED: Pars planitis is the idiopathic form of intermediate uveitis; it most commonly affects persons between 5 and 40 years of age. In childhood, the disease is largely asymptomatic until in a well advanced stage with markedly reduced vision. Lack of early diagnosis and treatment may lead to permanent visual loss and amblyopia.

We treated nontraumatic ectopia lentis with the irrigation and aspiration method in 30 children and the Keeler/SITE instrument in three. Preoperative visual acuities were 6/21 (20/70) or worse in all patients; postoperatively, visual acuities improved in 29 of the 30 eyes and were 6/18 (20/60) or better in 24 (80%). INTRODUCTION: Congenital ptosis is malpositioning of the eyelids that, when moderate or severe, can negatively affect visual development during its critical period, resulting in amblyopia: diminished visual acuity with no apparent organic cause. Early diagnosis and timely treatment are essential for preventing amblyopia. Congenital ptosis is uncommon but poses a challenge to any ophthalmologist; the only treatment is surgical.
