Differential Neurotoxicity Related to Tetracycline Transactivator and TDP-43 Expression in Conditional TDP-43 Mouse Model of Frontotemporal Lobar Degeneration.

Frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) is among the most prevalent dementias of early-onset. Pathologically, FTLD presents with tauopathy or TAR DNA-binding protein 43 (TDP-43) proteinopathy. A biallelic mouse model of FTLD was produced on a mix FVB/129SVE background overexpressing wild-type human TDP-43 (hTDP-43) using tetracycline transactivator (tTA), a system widely used in mouse models of neurological disorders. tTA activates hTDP-43, which is placed downstream of the tetracycline response element. The original study on this transgenic mouse found hippocampal degeneration following hTDP

Natural polymer carboxymethyl cellulose based strong adhesive, self-healing, and flexible conductive organohydrogel for wearable strain sensing application.

Scientists are especially focused on conductive hydrogels, particularly regarding flexible sensors like strain and pressure sensors. The potential uses of these flexible materials encompass electricity storage, human motion tracking, interdisciplinary robotics, and artificial skin. In contrast, its elevated response time, diminished conductivity, substantial energy dissipation, limited stretchability, and extended strain sensitivity hinder its practical application. Achieving all of these characteristics inside a single hydrogel network is a challenging job. This study has led to the creation

Synthesis and self-assembly of new quinuclidinolium-based surfactants: enhanced activity of cytochrome c and efficient antimicrobial activity.

Bio-based surfactants are a great alternative to conventional surfactants owing to their low toxicity and minimal environmental impact. Herein, four new 3-quinuclidinol-based surfactants, namely, [C16Qui][Br], [C12Qui][Br], [C12AQui][Br] and [C8Qui][Br], have been synthesized and characterized for the first time. The thermal stability of all the surfactants at higher than 250 °C makes them suitable for high-temperature applications. The self-assembly behavior of these surfactants is thoroughly characterized using various techniques. The interactions between relatively hydrophobic bulky head gr

Three-dimensional ocular surface displacement and strain measurement using fringe projection profilometry and digital image correlation.

SIGNIFICANCE: Accurate measurement of ocular surface deformation under intraocular pressure (IOP) is essential for understanding eye biomechanics and the progression of pressure-related diseases such as glaucoma. However, existing imaging techniques often involve trade-offs among spatial resolution, system complexity, and the ability to capture full-field three-dimensional (3D) deformation on highly curved, compliant tissues. AIM: We investigate the feasibility of a noncontact measurement framework that combines fringe projection profilometry (FPP) and two-dimensional digital image correlatio

Multilevel functional quantile principal component analysis.

Accelerometer studies typically include repeated 24-h observations over several days and more recently have collected information on participants for weeks, months, or years. Meanwhile, there is growing evidence to suggest that components of physical activity beyond average or expected values are important for quantifying and understanding activity. Motivated by these emerging aspects, we introduce Multilevel Functional Quantile Principal Component Analysis (MFQPCA), a novel dimension-reduction technique that extends Functional Quantile Principal Component Analysis to hierarchical functional d

Heterogeneity in cranial dura mater at the microscale: An In-situ and ex-vivo structural and mechanical investigation of sulcus and gyrus Dura.

This study examines cranial dura mater's structural and mechanical heterogeneity, focusing on the distinct properties between the sulcus and gyrus regions. Microscale analyses using two-photon microscopy and atomic force microscopy (AFM) revealed significant regional differences in thickness (p < 0.05), with sulcus dura being 1.34 times thicker than gyrus dura. Differences in effective Young's modulus were observed, with values of 6.75 ± 5.12 kPa in the sulcus and 10.48 ± 7.13 kPa in the gyrus. These findings highlight the dura mater's pronounced variability in stiffness and anisotropy, with t

Reference Intervals for Conventional Transthoracic Echocardiography and Two-Dimensional Speckle Tracking Echocardiography-Derived Strain Values in the Dutch Sheepdog ('Schapendoes').

Echocardiographic values can vary between dog breeds, making breed-specific reference intervals (RIs) preferable. Two-dimensional speckle tracking echocardiography (2-D STE) is an advanced imaging technique that enables the measurement of myocardial deformation parameters, contributing to the assessment of systolic function. The objective was to determine breed-specific RIs for 2-D, M-mode, and Doppler-derived echocardiographic parameters for Dutch Sheepdogs, and to obtain 2-D STE-derived strain and strain rate values in this breed. Apparently healthy, purebred Dutch Sheepdogs (1-7 years) were
