Using a non-radioactive in situ hybridization procedure it has been demonstrated that both invertebrates such as the mollusc Mytilus galloprovincialis and lower vertebrates such as the fish Cyprinus carpio express bovine alphaS1- and kappa-casein homologous mRNAs. In particular, positive results were found in molluscan immunocytes, and in cells located in different fish tissues: intestine, endocrine pancreas and kidney. These findings suggest that the casein genes are highly conserved throughout evolution.

A Gram-stain-positive, motile, and rod-shaped bacterium, designated as strain MB25T, was isolated from the gut of Cyprinus carpio from the highly polluted river Yamuna, India. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequence revealed that strain MB25T belonged to the genus Sporosarcina, sharing the highest sequence similarity with S. luteola Y1T (98.98%) and S. koreensis S-K12T (98.91%). This study aimed to evaluate the effects of dietary supplementation with Bacillus velezensis FL9 on growth performance, immune response, intestinal health, and disease resistance of Cyprinus carpio. A total of 420 fish (initial weight of 1.86 ± 0.25 g) were randomly assigned into four groups: a control group (C) and three treatment groups fed diets supplemented with B. velezensis FL9 at 1 × 105 CFU/g (SC), 1 × 107 CFU/g (MC), and 1 × 109 CFU/g (LC), respectively. After 56 days of feeding, ten fish per group were intraperitoneally challenged with Aeromonas hydrophila (2 × 107 CFU/mL) for 48 h.
