OBJECTIVES: To report the phenotypic, genetic findings and outcome of children with lupus manifestations associated with primary immunodeficiency diseases (PIDs).
METHODS: Data are retrospectively collected on patients with lupus manifestations and PIDs seen between 1998 and 2019. Data comprised the clinical findings and genetic testing, the response to treatment and the accrual damage related to SLE.

The outer membrane protein Ail of Yersinia pestis mediates several virulence functions, including serum resistance. Here, we demonstrate that Ail binds C4b-binding protein (C4BP), the primary fluid-phase regulator of the classical and lectin pathways. Non-covalent binding of C4 and C4b to Ail was also observed. This study was conducted to test the hypothesis that elevated dietary arginine enhances immunity of juvenile Jian carp (Cyprinus carpio var. Jian). We examined 18 families with infants who had neonatal lupus erythematosus (NLE) syndrome to determine whether abnormalities in C4 phenotypes and genotypes were an additional risk factor for this syndrome. Fifteen of 18 mothers of infants with NLE (83%) had C4 null allotypes compared with 36% of population controls (p = less than .001). This increased frequency was due mainly to the presence of C4A null allotypes (11/18, 61%).
