[The control of catheter-associated urinary tract infection: an experimental nursing study. This study examined the effect of daily meatal care on the urinary tract infection rate of an experimental group].

The purpose of study was to confirm theory about the effectiveness of routine meatal care on the reduction of catheter-associated urinary tract infection. The study was carried out at a university hospital from September 1, 1987 to April 17, 1989: 32 patients with a foley-catheter were studied. The study compared the urinary tract infection rate of an experimental group with that of a control group and tested the antibiotic susceptibility of the isolated bacteria. The experimental group (16 patients) was given daily meatal care with 10% Betadine for periods ranging from 4 to 21 days. The contr

Preliminary effectiveness of a culturally adapted Acceptance and Commitment Group Therapy (ACT-G) on weight-related struggles among Malaysian women with overweight or obesity: A randomized controlled trial.

The prevalence of overweight and obesity, particularly among women, has risen significantly, leading to a global epidemic. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) has proven effective in addressing weight-related psychological struggles, reducing weight self-stigma (WSS), and enhancing well-being. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of a culturally adapted Acceptance and Commitment Group Therapy (ACT-G) in reducing WSS, experiential avoidance (EA), and body mass index (BMI) among Malaysian women with overweight and obesity. The study employed a randomised controlled trial, including

Stimulation methods for collecting urine from hospitalised precontinent infants: study protocol for a prospective, multicentre, open-label, three-arm, parallel-group randomised controlled trial.

INTRODUCTION: Obtaining clean-catch urine (CCU) samples from non-continent infants is a common clinical challenge due to low urine volume and irregular urination. Non-invasive stimulation techniques, such as the bladder stimulation technique (BST) and the Quick-Wee method, have been proposed to improve success rates and reduce contamination. However, the supporting evidence remains inconsistent, and no multicentre randomised trials have directly compared the effectiveness and safety of Quick-Wee, BST and standard CCU. METHODS AND ANALYSIS: The study will enrol 342 infants aged 1-12 months req

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) as an additional treatment to cognitive behavior group therapy in adults with tobacco dependence - a double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled pilot trial.

Transcranial direct current stimulation (tDCS) targeting the dorsolateral prefrontal cortex (DLPFC) has been proposed as a safe, accessible intervention for tobacco dependence. However, existing evidence is mixed and primarily limited to short-term outcomes. This study investigated the efficacy and safety of prefrontal tDCS as an adjunct to standardized cognitive behavioral group therapy (CBT) for tobacco dependence. In this double-blind, randomized, sham-controlled pilot trial conducted in Germany, adults with tobacco dependence defined by an Fagerström Test of Nicotine Dependence score >4 an

Transforming GP practices into multiprofessional primary care centers: The role of nursing professionals (PRIMA) - study protocol for a multicenter non-randomized, controlled, parallel-group intervention study.

BACKGROUND: Germany faces increasing challenges in primary care due to demographic change, workforce shortages, and the growing prevalence of chronic conditions. Integrating nursing professionals into primary care teams may improve continuity, comprehensiveness, and efficiency of care, but evidence for the German setting remains limited. The PRIMA project (DRKS00039104) implements a new care model that transforms general practices into multiprofessional primary care centers integrating specially trained nursing professionals. The objective is a productivity- and quality-oriented reorganization

Endocrine and metabolic consequences of off-season exercise cessation versus reduction in highly trained Division I female basketball players: a randomized controlled parallel-group study.

The off-season may induce adverse metabolic adaptations in highly trained Division I athletes due to reduced training load. Myonectin, a skeletal muscle-derived myokine, may be a sensitive marker of physical-activity change; however, its response to different off-season training strategies in highly trained female basketball players remains unclear. This study compared the effects of exercise cessation versus exercise reduction on circulating myonectin levels and metabolic health in highly trained Division I female basketball players. Thirty-four highly trained Division I female basketball pla

Rehabilitation Involving Tailored Subsymptomatic Aerobic Exercise in Adult Patients With Persistent Postconcussion Symptoms (REPCon Project): Protocol for an Assessor-Blinded, Parallel-Group, Randomized Controlled Trial.

BACKGROUND: Persistent postconcussion symptoms (PPCSs) represent a complex phenomenon following mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI), and this phenomenon is characterized by a diverse range of symptoms that greatly impact daily functioning, including the ability to engage in physical, cognitive, and social activities. Effective rehabilitation strategies and a nuanced understanding of brain function and patient perception remain insufficiently explored in adults with PPCSs. OBJECTIVE: This study aims to assess the physiological and neurofunctional effects of targeted physical exercise carried ou

Evaluation of a group compassion-based program for perceived social isolation and depression in family caregivers of patients with multiple sclerosis: study protocol for an open-label randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Multiple sclerosis (MS) is an autoimmune disorder of the central nervous system that causes neurologic disabilities. People with MS may need continuous care from a family caregiver. Caring is associated with physical and mental challenges, including mental health problems such as social isolation and depression. The health of patients is influenced by their caregivers' health status. Therefore, this is a serious challenge faced by nurses in family-centered nursing care. Effective interventions, such as compassion-focused therapy (CFT), are needed to help caregivers continue caregiv

ALCOhol use, Norms, Identities and Motivations-based (ALCONIM) prevention program for binge drinking among college students: a study protocol for a parallel-group randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Binge drinking (BD) refers to repeated switches between intense and short intoxication as well as periods of abstinence. Subjective norms, drinking identity and social and enhancement motives are found to be the most dominant determinants of BD in college students. Targeting these psychosocial factors could be of public health interest in this population, in which up to one out of five students would practice BD. The purpose of our study is to evaluate the efficacy of brief BD determinants-focused procedures, namely, hypocrisy induction (HI), social identity mapping (SIM) and motiv

Role of the collagen scaffold in preventing intrauterine adhesion from recurrence after adhesiolysis: protocol for a multicentre, randomised, controlled, parallel-group, open-label, superiority clinical trial.

INTRODUCTION: Intrauterine adhesions (IUAs) are one of the most common causes of uterine infertility. Hysteroscopic adhesiolysis is the primary treatment for IUA, but the rate of IUA recurrence is high in moderate to severe cases. While traditional guidelines recommend placing a non-copper stainless steel intrauterine device (IUD) into the uterine cavity after adhesiolysis to prevent readhesion, the preventive effect is uncertain. Our preliminary trials suggested that the collagen scaffold was more effective in moderate cases. This study aims to assess the efficacy and safety of a collagen sca

Comparison of analgesic effect of pericapsular nerve group block and supra-inguinal fascia iliaca compartment block on dynamic pain in patients with hip fractures: a randomized controlled trial.

BACKGROUND: Patients with hip fracture often experience severe pain, particularly during movement or slight positional change, prior to the occurrence of surgery. It is essential to explore the appropriate analgesic methods before surgery in patients with hip fracture, especially those capable of alleviating dynamic pain. Pericapsular nerve group (PENG) block was introduced as a useful technique for hip analgesia. In this study, we aimed to compare the reduction in dynamic pain between the PENG block and supra-inguinal fascia iliaca compartment block (SIFICB). METHODS: This prospective trial

A person-centred consultation intervention to improve shared decision-making about, and uptake of, osteoporosis medicines (iFraP): a pragmatic, parallel-group, individual randomised controlled trial protocol.

BACKGROUND: Good quality shared decision-making (SDM) conversations involve people with, or at risk of osteoporosis and clinicians collaborating to decide, where appropriate, which evidence-based medicines best fit the person's life, beliefs, and values. We developed the improving uptake of Fracture Prevention drug treatments (iFraP) intervention comprising a computerised Decision Support Tool (DST), clinician training package and information resources, for use in UK Fracture Liaison Service consultations. Two primary objectives to determine (1) the effect of the iFraP intervention on patient-

Comparative effectiveness of remote digital gamified and group CBT skills training interventions for anxiety and depression among college students: Results of a three-arm randomised controlled trial.

Digital interventions can enhance access to healthcare in under-resourced settings. However, guided digital interventions may be costly for low- and middle-income countries, despite their effectiveness. In this randomised control trial, we evaluated the effectiveness of two digital interventions designed to address this issue: (1) a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy Skills Training (CST) intervention that increased scalability by using remote online group administration; and (2) the SuperBetter gamified self-guided CBT skills training app, which uses other participants rather than paid staff as gui
