[Mediastinal Lymphangioma:Report of a Case].

A 76-year-old woman was admitted to our hospital with an abnormal shadow on a chest computed tomography (CT) scan. A chest magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an anterior mediastinal cyst of 7 cm in diameter with an internal septal-like structure, leading to the differential diagnosis of mediastinal lymphangioma. After administering milk, we performed video-assisted thoracoscopic excision of the lesion. After excision of the cyst, no cloudy fluid leakage was observed from the excised margin. Immunohistochemical analysis showed that the cells lining the cyst walls were stained positive fo

Mucinous Cystadenoma of Ovary with Vague Symptoms: A Case Report.

UNLABELLED: Ovarian cyst is a fluid-filled sac in the ovary, common among reproductive women. Mucinous cystadenoma is a common variety of non-functional benign lesions that presents vague symptoms and can mislead the diagnosis. A 26-year-old female presented to the clinic with weakness and lethargy, which lasted for 3 months, along with other symptoms like headache, abdominal pain, bloating, nausea, and constipation. She was managed with iron deficiency anaemia, however, her symptoms did not improve. Later, an ultrasound revealed an ovarian cyst. Laparoscopic left-sided ovarian cystectomy was

Spinal Syrinx Due to Lipiodol-Induced Arachnoiditis.

We present a case of a progressive symptomatic intramedullary cyst, diagnosed decades after Lipiodol injection. Lipiodol was originally administered intrathecally for the radiologic diagnosis of spinal masses. A link between the lesion and the history of Lipiodol injection was never suspected. Surgical exploration revealed a membrane above the lesion, separating the intradural space in a cranial and caudal compartment. On the level of the cyst, we identified glassy pearls containing a fatty liquid, compatible with Lipiodol deposits. We hypothesize that the syrinx is secondary to the impact of

Pathological Changes in Surgically Resected Cystic Cerebral Cavernous Malformation 13 Years After Radiosurgery: Case Report and Review of the Literature.

BACKGROUND: Stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) as a treatment for cerebral cavernous malformation (CCM) has been controversial, but there are few pathological reports showing its long-term therapeutic effect, and literature reporting the CCM cyst formation after SRS is also rare. CASE DESCRIPTION: We present a 30-year-old woman with a ruptured right parietal CCM treated with SRS 13 years ago. The post-SRS imaging follow-up revealed CCM rehemorrhage and cyst formation. Surgical resection was performed, and a subsequent pathological examination revealed that the CCM still had some incomplete occlu

Lateral rectus dermoid cyst presenting as incomitant esotropia.

A 24-year-old male presented with decreased vision associated with inward deviation of his left eye since childhood and gradually progressive prominence of left eye for 6 months. Left eye examination revealed visual acuity of 2/60, convergent squint with restricted abduction and medial dystopia. Computed tomography (CT) scan showed a well-circumscribed mass with fat fluid levels temporal to the optic nerve indistinguishable from the left lateral rectus. Intraoperatively, a well-encapsulated mass was identified within the lateral rectus muscle which was confirmed as dermoid cyst on histopatholo

Spontaneous perforation of choledochal cyst and hyperemesis gravidarum.

A 28-year-old primigravida at seven weeks gestation presented to the Accident & Emergency Department complaining of vomiting for five days. She was admitted and managed as a case of hyperemesis gravidarum. Two days later she developed abdominal distension. Ultrasound scan revealed ascites and common bile duct dilatation. The ascitic fluid was bile stained. At emergency laparotomy spontaneous perforation of the supraduodenal part of the common bile duct was seen. This was closed around a T-tube. She then underwent medical termination of pregnancy. The post-operative T-tube cholangiogram was sug

[Case of cervical monostotic fibrous dysplasia with a large cyst].

We report a rare cervical monostotic fibrous dysplasia with a large cyst in the C2 region in a 55-year-old man complaining of headache. MRI revealed an expanding bony tumor at the C2 spinous process. Gd-DTPA MRI showed slight enhancement around a cystic mass. We performed C2 laminectomy and removed the tumor. It was comprised of soft tissue in the C2 spinous process and right lamina and contained a large septated cyst filled with xanthochromic fluid. Histopathology confirmed fibrous dysplasia with typical woven bony trabeculae. His postoperative course was uneventful and outpatient follow-up d

Posttraumatic hepatic cyst--an unusual sequela of liver injury in the era of imaging.

Nonoperative management of blunt liver injury in children has become a generally accepted form of therapy unless vital signs deteriorate or associated injury requires emergency operation. Serial monitoring of the liver with computed tomographic (CT) scans or abdominal ultrasonography contributes much to the management of these children. A persistent intrahepatic hematoma that goes unnoticed for years and eventually results in a cyst with a thick wall that contains viscous yellowish green fluid and sludge occurred occasionally before the era of CT or ultrasound imaging, but it is unusual in mod

Popliteal cysts: a current review.

Baker's cyst, or popliteal cyst, is a fluid-filled mass that is a distention of a preexisting bursa in the popliteal fossa, most commonly the gastrocnemio-semimembranosus bursa. This bursa is unique in that it communicates with the knee joint, unlike other periarticular bursae, via an opening in the joint capsule posterior to the medial femoral condyle. Many have theorized that this opening creates a valve-like mechanism in the presence of effusion that contributes to the formation of these cysts in adults. Popliteal cysts rarely manifest alone and are most often found in conjunction with othe

Vitamin-D-dependent rickets type 2.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY: To evaluate the outcome of fetal ovarian cysts in relation to their ultrasonic appearance and size. To define, on that basis, the contribution of intrauterine aspiration. MATERIAL AND METHODS: Retrospective study of all ovarian fetal cysts detected by prenatal ultrasound examination (n = 25) during a 4 year period. All these cysts were followed during pregnancy and after delivery until spontaneous or surgical resolution. RESULTS: At the time of prenatal sonographic detection at the mean gestational age of 32 1/2 weeks, the mean cyst diameter was 43+/-17 mm and 36% of

Endoscopic management of cysticercal cysts within the lateral and third ventricles.

OBJECT: In this report the authors review their 3-year experience with the endoscopic management of patients with hydrocephalus who harbored cysticercal cysts within the third and lateral ventricles. The management plan was to utilize an endoscopic approach to remove the cysts and to incorporate techniques useful in treating obstructive hydrocephalus. The ultimate goals were to avoid having to place a complication-prone cerebrospinal fluid shunt and to eliminate the risk of complications related to cyst degeneration. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 10 patients with hydrocephalus and cyst

16 year experience with aspiration of noncomplex breast cysts: cytology results with focus on positive cases.

We performed a retrospective review of 5375 aspirations performed during the last 16 years of noncomplex cysts. Cytology results and outcomes following aspirations of simple and complicated cysts performed by the senior author at our institution were reviewed. Complex cysts with associated solid components which were core biopsied are excluded from this review. We present our data as the largest series to date performed by one breast radiologist at a single institution. Our data separate cysts with atypia or malignant cytology into those sampled concurrently with solid neoplasms and those whic

Gray scale ultrasonography of a traumatic biliary cyst.

Traumatic hepatic biliary cysts, which occur when there is leakage after traumatic disruption of the biliary system, can be readily detected with hepatic sonography. Differentiation from other hepatic fluid collections can be made by percutaneous thin needle aspiration. Aspiration may have possible utility as a therapeutic modality. A case is presented in which Gray scale ultrasonography revealed a biliary cyst which was drained operatively and resolved.

Uterine mesothelial cysts mimicking ovarian cysts in a primipara patient with a history of Cesarean section: A case report and review of the literature.

OBJECTIVE: We describe a rare case of uterine mesothelial cysts mimicking ovarian cysts in a primipara patient with a history of Cesarean section. CASE REPORT: A 39-year-old female patient with history of Cesarean section presented with dysmenorrhea. Sonography revealed that a hypoechoic and anechoic multicystic complex, which was located on the right side of the pelvic cavity, had infiltrated the adjacent posterior wall of the uterus, and it was preoperatively misdiagnosed as ovarian cysts with suspected endometrioma. Laparoscopic surgery revealed multiple cystic lesions filled with clear ye

Hemianopia: A complication of epidural injection in a patient with arachnoid cyst - case report.

Epidural injections are routinely used for short-term management of radicular pain and chronic low back pain. Prescription of this intervention, in the presence of intracranial abnormalities, is a topic of debate. Intracranial arachnoid cysts are cerebrospinal fluid-filled spaces, which are usually asymptomatic despite being a formidable size. As far as the authors know, there have been no cases depicted in indexed literature regarding asymptomatic supratentorial arachnoid cysts becoming symptomatic post undertaking of spinal epidural injections. We depict this phenomenon in a 53-year-old woma

[Endoscopic fenestration of arachnoid cyst of posterior cranial fossa through third ventriculostomy].

Arachnoid cysts (AC) are spaces with cerebrospinal fluid covered with arachnoid membrane. Most cysts are supratentorial and only 10-12% of ACs are found in posterior cranial fossa. This disease is usually diagnosed in childhood. In adults, ACs make up 1.4% of all focal lesions. ACs of posterior cranial fossa are often localized behind the cerebellum or in cerebellopontine angle. Most patients with cysts do not have permanent symptoms and should be followed-up. Surgery is indicated for cysts complicated by focal and hydrocephalic-hypertension symptoms. Microsurgical or endoscopic procedures are

Successful Laparoscopy-Assisted Resection of the Descending Colon in a Patient with Multiple Large Renal Cysts and Stricture of the Colon due to Ischemic Colitis.

Large pathological structures in the abdominal cavity curb the application of laparoscopic surgery. This case report describes a successful laparoscopy-assisted colectomy for benign colon disease in a patient with multiple large renal cysts. An 82-year-old man was referred to our department for treatment of stenosis of descending colon secondary to ischemic colitis. An abdominal computed tomography revealed multiple large renal cysts occupying a large proportion of the peritoneal cavity. To minimize the postoperative recovery period, laparoscopic surgery was planned despite the renal cysts. Af

A rare case of hepatic myxoma: Case Report.

Myxomas are benign tumours occurring commonly, but not limited to the heart. Myxomas can also occur in various locations such as the skeletal muscles, skin, urogenital tract, subcutaneous tissue and even in bone. They are quite rare; are tumours of mesenchymal origin and usually produce mucinous type fluid. About 1 in 10 are hereditary and tend to occur more commonly in women. Common benign hepatic masses are of epithelial origin and majority are discovered incidentally on radiological abdominal or chest screening. We present a case of an intrahepatic myxoma. Clinical and radiological features

From the archives of the AFIP. Primary tumors of the spine: radiologic pathologic correlation.

Primary tumors of the spine are relatively infrequent lesions compared with metastatic disease, multiple myeloma, and lymphoma. However, when a solitary lesion of the spine occurs, these neoplasms represent an important group of entities for diagnostic consideration. A wide variety of benign neoplasms can involve the spine, including osteoid osteoma, osteoblastoma, aneurysmal bone cyst, giant cell tumor, enostosis, and osteochondroma. Common primary nonlymphoproliferative malignant neoplasms of the spine include chordoma, chondrosarcoma, Ewing sarcoma or primitive neuroectodermal tumor, and os

A potential diagnostic reagent for bovine cysticercosis.

A fraction of larval Taenia hydatigena cyst fluid was shown to have high sensitivity and specificity in the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) for the detection of bovine antibodies to the heterologous parasite Taenia saginata. This antigenically active lipoprotein fraction was isolated by ultracentrifugal density flotation using either ammonium sulfate (specific gravity = 1.231 g per ml) or NaCl/KBr (specific gravity = 1.225 g per ml), followed by ion-exchange chromatography. Sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE) indicated that this fraction was composed …
