UNLABELLED: Paraplegia after repair of coarctation of the aorta is uncommon.
CASE REPORT: A 2-month-old boy underwent excision of the coarctation area and primary anastomosis because of persistent heart failure. Spastic paraplegia was noted some hours after surgery. Motor deficit partially improved, but bladder dysfunction appeared some months after. Medullary magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) revealed an ischemia-related narrowing of the medullary diameter.

OBJECTIVE: To introduce a new procedure for repairing coronal or subcoronal hypospadias with severe chordee.
METHODS: A modified technique of elongating the anterior urethra, combined with the MAGPI procedure, was used to repair the coronal or subcoronal hypospadias in 19 severe chordee patients (aged 5 to 12 years). This study is a retrospective analysis of a consecutive series of 85 patients with primary melanomas of the trunk (51 patients) and extremities (34 patients) treated by wide excision and flap repair. Both the standard rhombic flap (39 cases) and the double-Z rhomboid flap (46 cases) were used. Postoperative follow-up was 11 to 49 months, with a mean of 20 months. Infections of the carotid arteries and sheath without any underlying etiology are extremely uncommon. In this article, we report the successful open repair of a right carotid sheath abscess in a 71-year-old woman with multiple comorbidities. The repair consisted of excision of the affected carotid segment and reconstruction by interposition of a reversed great saphenous vein graft. A glomus tumour is a rare tumour of the hand, which presents with a classic triad of symptoms of temperature sensitivity, pain, and localised tenderness. We report a series of 14 patients with glomus tumours in the subungual region. There were four men and 10 women, whose mean age was 46 years (range 28-65). Maduromycosis is a chronic granulomatous condition caused by fungal infection and is rarely encountered in Europe. Ultraviolet (UV) radiation can induce acute and chronic photobiologic reactions in the absence of exogenous chromophores. Nuclear DNA is a major chromophore to initiate UV-induced physiologic reactions. The XPA-gene deficient mouse, an animal model of xeroderma pigmentosum, develops increased photobiologic reactions including acute inflammation, immunosuppression and skin cancers, because of the defect in the excision repair of UV-induced DNA lesions.

We report a case of Bouveret's Syndrome (gastric outlet obstruction by gallstone) and gallstone emesis, both of which are very rare, in a 77-year old Ghanaian woman. Diagnosis depends on high index of suspicion and confirmation with endoscopy. Definitive treatment consist of enterotomy plus stone retrieval with primary excision of the diseased gallbladder and repair of the duodenal fistula.
