Parental decision making in male circumcision.

PURPOSE: To study which healthcare professionals (HCPs) firstasked parents about their decision regarding circumcision; whether parents felt they were given enough information by their HCP; and what reasons parents cited for their decision. STUDY DESIGN AND METHODS: Bilingual questionnaires were administered to parents and expecting parents of boys (N = 60). Close-ended survey responses were analyzed through factor analysis to ascertain what types of beliefs parents used in their decision making, whether they felt they had enough information, and who first asked them about their decision. Hand hygiene deficiency citations in nursing homes.

Hand hygiene (HH) is recognized as an effective way to decrease transmission of infections. Little research has been conducted surrounding HH in nursing homes (NHs). In this research, deficiency citations representing potential problems with HH practices by staff as identified in the certification process conducted at almost all US NHs were examined. The aims of the study were to identify potential relationships between these deficiency citations and characteristics of the NH and characteristics of the NH environment. We used a panel of 148,900 observations with information primarily coming fr

Role of nursing and midwifery in mainstreaming genomics in Australia: mixed-methods study exploring scope of practice and strategies for implementation.

BACKGROUND: The integration of genomics into Australian health services offers significant benefits for the diagnosis and delivery of targeted treatments, but its success relies on a workforce equipped to deliver genomic-informed care. Nurses and midwives, Australia's largest healthcare workforce, have the potential to play a key role in the integration of genomic care into mainstream services by enabling access to the diverse and geographically spread Australian population. To achieve this, it is imperative to clearly define their roles in genomic practice and identify specific educational an

Associations Between Fatigue and Sleep Among Night-Shift Nurses: Mediating Role of Depressive Symptoms and Social Support.

BACKGROUND: This study examined the association between fatigue and sleep disturbance among night-shift nurses during the COVID-19 pandemic and the mediating roles of depressive symptoms and social support. METHODS: A cross-sectional survey was conducted involving 1667 night-shift nurses from multiple hospitals. The Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Fatigue Scale-14, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale, and Social Support Rating Scale were used for assessment. Correlation analysis and mediation effect analysis were performed using SPSS 26.0 and PROCESS macro. RESULTS: Poor sleep (PSQI

Development and implementation of paging and escalation guidelines to improve interprofessional communication on surgical units.

INTRODUCTION: Suboptimal interprofessional communication in the surgical inpatient setting has important implications for patient safety. Our departmental quality committee identified numerous safety events resulting from discordant expectations between surgical floor nurses and surgical residents or advanced practice providers (APPs) who serve as responding clinicians (RCs), and from reluctance to escalate clinical concerns. Alphanumeric paging is frequently used to communicate, but there are opportunities to enhance its effectiveness. This initiative sought to improve perceptions of communic

Stress, interpersonal and inter-role conflicts, and psychological health conditions among nurses: vicious and virtuous circles within and beyond the wards.

BACKGROUND: The increasing costs of nurses' occupational-stress, conflicts, and violence within healthcare services have raised international interest. Yet, research/interventions should consider that perceived stress and conflicts- but also potential resources- within the wards can crossover the healthcare settings, impacting nurses' private lives and viceversa, potentially creating vicious circles exacerbating stress, conflicts/violence or, conversely, virtuous circles of psychological/relational wellbeing. Based on the Demands-Resources-and-Individual-Effects (DRIVE) Nurses Model, and respo

Nurse Experiences of Caring for Medically Compromised Adolescents With Eating Disorders in General Hospital Environments: A Scoping Review.

Eating disorders encompass a spectrum of mental health conditions that are characterised by a preoccupation with eating, exercise, body weight or shape. The trajectory of eating disorders can result in hospitalisation for medical complications, such as electrolyte imbalance, extremely low weight and other medical issues that require urgent inpatient attention. Typically, care for adolescents with medically compromised eating disorders occurs in general medical settings, with most care provided by nurses who may or may not have the training and experience to provide quality care for this comple

Workplace Violence Against Iranian Nurses: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis.

Nurses are exposed to workplace violence more than other healthcare professionals. This study aims to examine the prevalence of different types of workplace violence against Iranian nurses. A systematic review and meta-analysis were designed according to the PRISMA statement. To avoid bias, all stages of the research were done independently by two researchers. Eligible studies were retrieved from comprehensive search of several electronic databases included Magiran, Barakat Knowledge Network System, IranDoc, Regional Information Center for Science and Technology (RICST), Scientific Information

Establishing a Permanent Food Pantry in a Pediatric Emergency Department.

Childhood food insecurity is associated with adverse health outcomes. Food pantries housed within healthcare facilities have the potential to reduce childhood food insecurity. An interdisciplinary team established a permanent food pantry in the pediatric emergency department of a metropolitan children's hospital. Members of the team included attending and resident physicians, nurse practitioners, nurses, patient care technicians, a volunteer coordinator, Prevention and Wellness staff, and environmental services staff. The development process, formative evaluation, and impact of the pantry duri

Care transition of trauma patients: Processes with articulation work before and after handoff.

While care transitions influence quality of care, less work studies transitions between hospital units. We studied care transitions from the operating room (OR) to pediatric and adult intensive critical care units (ICU) using Systems Engineering Initiative for Patient Safety (SEIPS)-based process modeling. We interviewed twenty-nine physicians (surgery, anesthesia, pediatric critical care) and nurses (OR, ICU) and administered the AHRQ Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture items about handoffs, care transitions and teamwork. Care transitions are complex, spatio-temporal processes and invol

Nursing students' attitudes toward technology-enhanced psychomotor skill learning: scale development and validation using a mixed-methods approach.

BACKGROUND: The integration of information technologies into nursing education has increased significantly, particularly in the teaching of psychomotor skills. Although these technologies provide important learning opportunities, students' attitudes toward their use play a critical role in the effectiveness of technology-enhanced education. However, there is a lack of valid and reliable instruments specifically designed to assess nursing students' attitudes toward the use of information technologies in psychomotor skill learning. AIM: This study aimed to examine nursing students' attitudes to

Professional Values, Perceived Ethical Climate, and Dignity-Protecting Behaviors Among Intensive Care Nurses: A Moderation Analysis.

BACKGROUND: In intensive care unit (ICU) patients, diminished consciousness, device dependency, and limited privacy leave dignity preservation largely dependent on nurses' behavior, which may be shaped by both individual professional values and the unit's ethical climate. AIM: To examine the predictive roles of professional values and perceived ethical climate on dignity-protecting behaviors among ICU nurses and to test whether perceived ethical climate moderates the professional values-dignity-protecting behavior relationship. METHODS: This descriptive, cross-sectional study included 165 nu

"Struggle against Bitter Life": Lived Experience of Iranian Nurses with HIV/AIDS.

Objectives: The impact of HIV/AIDS on the healthcare system in many countries, particularly in developing countries is significant.
