Validity and reliability of an app-based medical device to empower individuals in evaluating their physical capacities.

BACKGROUND: Cardiorespiratory fitness and muscle strength are valid markers of health and strong predictors of mortality and morbidity. The tests used to measure these variables require in-person visits with specialized equipment and trained personnel-leading to organizational constraints both for patients and hospitals, and making them difficult to implement at a large scale. In this context, technologies embedded in smartphones offer new opportunities to develop remote tests. OBJECTIVES: This study aimed to test the validity and reliability of MediEval, a newly developed app-based medical d

Impact of Interprofessional Teamwork on Aligning Intensive Care Unit Care with Patient Goals: A Qualitative Study of Transactive Memory Systems.

Rationale: Although aligning care with patient goals is fundamental to critical care, this process is often delayed and leads to conflict among patients, families, and intensive care unit (ICU) teams. Interprofessional collaboration within ICU teams is an opportunity to improve goal-aligned care, yet this collaboration is poorly understood. A better understanding of how ICU team members work together to provide goal-aligned care may identify new strategies for improvement. Objectives: Transactive memory systems is a theory of group mind that explains how high-performing teams use a shared memo

Duration of second stage of labor and factors associated with prolonged second stage: A national population-based study in France.

OBJECTIVES: Prolonged second stage of labor could be associated with an increase in maternal and neonatal morbidity. However, in France, no consensual definition of prolonged 2nd stage of labor exists and therefore factors associated with prolonged second stage have not yet been studied. From national population-based data, we aimed at defining the prolonged 2nd stage of labor in France and identifying its associated factors for women with epidural. STUDY DESIGN: From the French national perinatal survey of 2016, we included all women who reached 2nd stage of labor and delivered at term of a

Acceptability of Nurse-Driven HIV Screening for Key Populations in Emergency Departments: A Mixed-Methods Study.

BACKGROUND: Optimizing care continuum entry interventions is key to ending the HIV epidemic. Offering HIV screening to key populations in emergency departments (EDs) is a strategy that has been demonstrated to be effective. Analyzing patient and provider perceptions of such screening can help identify implementation facilitators and barriers. OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to investigate the acceptability of offering nurse-driven HIV screening to key populations based on data collected from patients, nurses, and other service providers. METHODS: This convergent mixed-methods study was

Barriers to dog rabies vaccination during an urban rabies outbreak: Qualitative findings from Arequipa, Peru.

BACKGROUND: Canine rabies was reintroduced to the city of Arequipa, Peru in March 2015. The Ministry of Health has conducted a series of mass dog vaccination campaigns to contain the outbreak, but canine rabies virus transmission continues in Arequipa's complex urban environment, putting the city's 1 million inhabitants at risk of infection. The proximate driver of canine rabies in Arequipa is low dog vaccination coverage. Our objectives were to qualitatively assess barriers to and facilitators of rabies vaccination during mass campaigns, and to explore strategies to increase participation in

Engagement of non-government organisations and community care workers in collaborative TB/HIV activities including prevention of mother to child transmission in South Africa: opportunities and challenges.

BACKGROUND: The implementation of collaborative TB/HIV activities may help to mitigate the impact of the dual epidemic on patients and communities. Such implementation requires integrated interventions across facilities and levels of government, and with communities. Engaging Community Care Workers (CCWs) in the delivery of integrated TB/HIV services may enhance universal coverage and treatment outcomes, and address human resource needs in sub-Saharan Africa. METHODS: Using pre-intervention research in Sisonke district, KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa as a case study, we report on three study obj

Navigating Diabetes Management in the Digital Era: Scoping Review of Online Health Information-Seeking Behavior.

BACKGROUND: Online health information seeking (OHIS) has become a central component of chronic disease management within an increasingly interactive, algorithm-mediated digital ecosystem. For individuals with diabetes, ongoing self-management demands create sustained needs for accessible, actionable health information. Although prior reviews have described general information-seeking behaviors, few have integrated technological evolution, multilevel determinants, and equity considerations specific to diabetes. OBJECTIVE: This scoping review maps patterns of OHIS among individuals with diabete

A New Model for Bone Health Management in Postmenopausal Early Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Adjuvant Endocrine Therapy-The Predict & Prevent Project.

Objective: The Italian Drug Agency (AIFA) Determination n. 589 of 2015 (Note 79) establishes that the use of bisphosphonates or denosumab is necessary for the primary prevention of bone fractures in postmenopausal patients with early breast cancer (EBC) undergoing adjuvant endocrine therapy (ET). Since adherence to the 2015 AIFA recommendation was still very low in 2019, a new bone health management model was identified to improve adherence to this recommendation. Methods: The aim of this project (Predict & Prevent) was to increase the percentage of patients with early breast cancer (EBC) with
