In recent years, normed signed language assessments have become a useful tool for researchers, practitioners, and advocates. Nevertheless, there are limitations in their application, particularly for the diagnosis of language disorders, and learning disabilities. Here, we discuss some of the available normed, signed language assessments and some of their limitations. We have also provided information related to practices that should lead to improvement in the quality of signed language assessments.

The authors have investigated the psychodynamic background of possible psychogenic infertility in twenty couples. Four levels were studied: 1. Kleine-Levin syndrome is characterized by periodic hypersomnia, hyperphagia, sexual disinhibitions and behavioral disturbances. The prognosis is generally benign, with normal cognitive and social functions after the episodes. We describe a typical case of Kleine-Levin syndrome associated with apparent academic decline, neuropsychological sequelae and personality alterations after the second episode of the illness. Further research in the natural history of Kleine-Levin syndrome is needed, for example, to determine whether early intervention would improve long-term prognosis.

A matched group (N = 114) between high errors and no error conditions on the MFD was examined in a population of borderline and mild mental retardates. Matched variables were sex, Full Scale IQ, and age. The MFD, PIAT, and the WAIS-R were administered to all subjects. The concepts of Hysteria, Hypochondriasis and Hysterical Personality are reviewed and their relationship to pain and headache examined. It is further noted that many patients with supposed "tension headache" do not respond to measures which relieve anxiety. Electromyographic studies indicate that "tension headache" is not associated with the expected amounts of frontalis muscle tension.
