We studied the effect of a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug fenspiride on contractive activity of bronchial smooth muscles on the model of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease of rats induced by 60-day exposure to nitrogen dioxide. The administration of fenspiride during the acute stage of the disease (day 15) abolished the constricting effect of the pollutant on the bronchial smooth muscles. PURPOSE: To compare pain scores during laser in situ keratomileusis (LASIK) between first-eye surgery and second-eye surgery.
SETTING: Private practice, Beirut, Lebanon.
DESIGN: Cohort study.
METHODS: Sequential bilateral LASIK was performed between January 2010 and January 2011 by the same surgeon using a Schwind Amaris excimer laser. OBJECTIVES: Cutaneous anthrax (CA) is the most common clinical presentation in human anthrax, but the duration of antibiotic therapy in naturally occurring CA is controversial. The aim of this study was to compare the clinical outcomes of patients receiving antibiotic treatment for either 3-5 days (group 1) or 7-10 days (group 2) in uncomplicated CA.
METHODS: A total of 66 patients were enrolled; 29 (44%) in group 1 and 37 (56%) in group 2. Infections were classified as mild (n = 22, 33%) or severe (n = 44, 67%) CA.
