Simultaneous volar dislocation of distal interphalangeal (DIP) joint and volar fracture-subluxation of proximal interphalangeal (PIP) joint of the same finger has not been reported yet. A 19-year-old man was referred due to pain on the deformed left little finger after a ball injury. Radiographs showed volar dislocation of the DIP joint and dorsal lip fracture of the middle phalanx with volar subluxation of PIP joint of the little finger. This case was unique in terms of the mechanism of injury which was hyperflexion type in two adjacent joints of the same finger. The patient was treated by cl

Perilunate dislocation is a rare carpal dislocation, which are predominantly trans-styloid and trans-scaphoid. This type of fracture dislocation is seen due to axial loading of a hyperextended ulnar-deviated wrist. This can result in the disruption of the scapholunate, lunocapitate, and lunotriquetral ligaments. The lunate may dislocate volar or dorsal to the other carpal bones. Herein, we have reported a case of trans-styloid, trans-scaphoid perilunate fracture dislocation with carpal tunnel syndrome, which has never been reported in the literature. A 38-year-old construction worker presented

Bilateral posterior fracture dislocation is a rare injury known to be associated with seizures. Convulsion was found to be the cause of fracture dislocation in 78% of the cases reported. The mechanism of injury was described by Shaw in 1971. The management depends largely on the severity of the injury. In many cases reported, the fracture was a large compression defect in the anteromedial aspect of the articular surface of the humeral head. It has been suggested that for defects that involve less than 20% of the articular surface closed reduction can be attempted. Rush nail or percutaneous K w

Supracondylar fractures of the humerus are the most common elbow fractures in children, with a well-documented risk of associated neurovascular complications. While injuries to the median and anterior interosseous nerves are more frequently reported, isolated radial nerve palsy is a relatively rare complication. We report a case of isolated radial nerve palsy following a displaced supracondylar fracture in a pediatric patient, detailing the clinical presentation, management, and outcome. A six-year-old male presented to the emergency department following a fall from a playground, sustaining a

Traumatic posterior dislocation of the hip associated with a fracture of the posterior acetabular wall and of the neck of the femur is a rare injury. A 29-year-old man presented at a level 1 trauma centre with a locked posterior dislocation of the right hip, with fractures of the femoral neck and the posterior wall of the acetabulum after a bicycle accident. An attempted closed reduction had failed. This case report describes in detail the surgical management and the clinical and radiological outcome. Open reduction and fixation with preservation of the intact retinaculum was undertaken within

BACKGROUND: Approximately one-third of reduced pediatric distal radius fractures redisplace, resulting in further treatment. Two major modifiable risk factors for loss of reduction are reduction adequacy and cast quality. Closed reduction and immobilization of distal radius fractures is an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education residency milestone. Teaching and assessing competency could be improved with a life-like simulation training tool.
QUESTIONS/PURPOSES: Our goal was to develop and validate a realistic distal radius fracture reduction and casting simulator as determined b

INTRODUCTION: Anterior shoulder dislocations are common injuries usually managed by closed reduction. However, irreducible cases, especially in elderly patients with Alzheimer's disease, complicate both diagnosis and management.
CASE PRESENTATION: A 78-year-old female with Alzheimer's disease presented with severe right shoulder pain and reduced function following physiotherapy. Cognitive decline complicated neurovascular assessment and communication. Radiographs identified a right anterior shoulder dislocation with a displaced greater tuberosity fracture. Multiple closed reductions under sed

Nasal fractures are commonly treated using nasal packing as an internal splint after performing closed reduction. Although gauze and polyvinyl alcohol sponge (PVAS) are both commonly used for packing, few reports have compared their efficacy and safety in nasal fracture treatment. Therefore, in this study, the authors, aimed to retrospectively compare the efficacy and safety of gauze packing in 208 patients and PVAS packing in 225 patients who underwent closed reduction at our hospital. The proportions of patients requiring revision surgery did not differ significantly between the PVAS and gau

Total hip arthroplasty (THA) is a successful surgery in the treatment of hip pain, but there are potential complications, of which dislocation is one of the most common. Dislocation management is a challenging problem that requires a multimodal approach, and the use of dual mobility implants is an option. We present a patient with a history of femoral neck fracture who underwent THA with a double mobility implant. On the 18 th postoperative day, after a fall to the ground, she developed prosthesis dislocation and had a complication after closed reduction, a subsequent intraprosthetic dislocati

Gartland type-Ⅲ supracondylar humerus fracture (SCHF) is a severe lesion with the feature of difficult reduction. Due to the high failure rate of traditional reduction, a more practical and safer method is needed. This retrospective study aimed to explore the effectiveness of the double joystick technique during the closed reduction of children with type-III fractures. Forty-one children with Gartland type-Ⅲ SCHF underwent closed reduction and percutaneous fixation using the double joystick technique at our hospital between June 2020 and June 2022, and 36 (87.80%) patients were successfully fo

INTRODUCTION: Dislocation following hip hemiarthroplasty (HHA), its incidence, predictors, treatment outcomes and mortality were investigated in a single centre series.
METHODS: The prospectively collected data on neck of femur fracture admissions compiled over 11 years were reviewed. Place of residence, place of fall, past medical history, intraoperative factors (grade of surgeon, delay in surgery, type of implant and operative time), postoperative complications and mortality were compared between patients who suffered a dislocation and those who did not. In the dislocation group, the mean n

Percutaneous screw fixation is a good modality for operative management of extra-articular and some intra-articular fractures of the calcaneum amenable to closed reduction. Tongue-type calcaneal fractures with a dislocated posterior facet are usually treated with percutaneous fixation. When treating calcaneal fractures with substantial soft tissue compromise, particularly open fractures, percutaneous reduction techniques are crucial. They also provide patients with local or systemic contraindications to open reduction with a therapeutic option. We describe the intraoperative positioning of the

BACKGROUND: Supracondylar humerus fractures are very common in pediatric populations. In cases of dislocated fractures, closed reduction and percutaneous K‑wire fixation is recommended. Initially, 10-16 % of the patients also present lesion of the ulnar nerve as well as median nerve palsy in 6.4% and radial nerve palsy in 2.6 % of cases, respectively.
METHOD: We present the case of a 10-year-old boy with a dislocation of the elbow and fracture of the medial epicondyle. After closed reduction and K‑wire fixation from medial, he presents a median nerve palsy. That a lesion of the ulnar nerve is

The intrinsic joint stability of the first carpal-metacarpal joint (CMC) makes dislocation a rare injury with fewer than 40 cases described. The degree to which supporting ligaments have been disrupted is reflected clinically by a spectrum of joint stability. Close review of radiographs and an attentive physical examination are necessary to make the diagnosis. Acute treatment has consisted of closed or open reduction with K-wires for stabilization or casting with failures leading to chronic joint instability and the need for soft tissue tendon suspension to maintain joint alignment. We present

We report the results of 52 patients aged 20-55 years with displaced femoral neck fractures, in whom delayed closed reduction and internal fixation was performed. Seven patients developed avascular necrosis (AVN) and non-union was seen in five patients. Whereas most patients with non-union were subjected to repeat procedures, none of the patients with AVN required surgery. The follow-up averaged 40 months (range 22-64 months). Three patients were lost to follow-up. Functional outcome was defined by Judet's system. Good to excellent functional outcome was achieved in 45 cases. The study demonst
