BACKGROUND: There is no consensus regarding the optimal rehabilitation regimen for increasing quadriceps strength after anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury.
HYPOTHESIS: A comprehensive rehabilitation program supplemented with quadriceps strengthening in open kinetic chain (OKC) exercise will increase quadriceps strength and improve knee function without increasing static or dynamic sagittal tibial translation, compared with the same comprehensive rehabilitation program supplemented with quadriceps strengthening in closed kinetic chain (CKC) exercise, in patients with acute ACL deficiency.

BACKGROUND: Myalgic encephalomyelitis / chronic fatigue syndrome (ME/CFS) is a multisystem disorder characterised by unrelenting fatigue, post-exertional malaise, and dysfunction across immune, nervous, metabolism, and endocrine systems. Given the broad role of steroid hormones in regulating these systems, this study investigated differences in the steroid metabolome and network dynamics between ME/CFS patients and matched controls.
METHODS: Blood plasma steroid levels were quantified using Ultra-Performance Supercritical Fluid Chromatography- Tandem Mass Spectrometry (UPSFC-MS/MS) in ME/CFS

INTRODUCTION: Patellar tendinopathy (PT) rehabilitation programmes frequently incorporate eccentric exercise (EE), where participants have limited control over the range of motion, speed, force production and load. Newly developed training protocols that employ visual feedback with specialised devices offer controlled management of loads, speeds and forces across the full range of motion, potentially providing greater benefits.
OBJECTIVE: This protocol outlines a randomised controlled trial designed to compare the effects of a visuomotor torque feedback (TF) protocol with a traditional EE pro

PURPOSE: High pressure dyssynergic voiding may result in irreversible damage to the urinary tract. Prophylactic therapy in the form of clean intermittent catheterization and anticholinergic medication may significantly decrease the incidence of upper urinary tract deterioration. Whether prophylactic therapy in the high risk bladder may also lead to improved long-term bladder dynamics prompted us to study the effect of early versus late treatment of bladder hypertonicity and detrusor-sphincter dyssynergia on the ultimate need for bladder augmentation.

Characterization of disease using stationary resting-state functional connectivity (FC) has provided important hallmarks of abnormal brain activation in many domains. Recent studies of resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI), however, suggest there is a considerable amount of additional knowledge to be gained by investigating the variability in FC over the course of a scan. While a few studies have begun to explore the properties of dynamic FC for characterizing disease, the analysis of dynamic FC over multiple networks at multiple time scales has yet to be fully examined. BACKGROUND: Our understanding of the impact of chronic ankle instability (CAI) on dynamic postural stability remains limited, primarily due to the absence of reliable and accurate assessment tools. This study aimed to explore two aspects of dynamic postural stability: (1) differences in the dynamic postural stability index (DPSI) and its directional components between athletes with CAI and those with stable ankles; and (2) the impact of jump direction (forward vs. lateral) on these indices across both groups.
METHODS: We recruited fifteen athletes with CAI and fifteen healthy athletes as cont

ClC-3 chloride channel has been proved to have a relationship with the expression of osteogenic markers during osteogenesis, persistent static compression can upregulate the expression of ClC-3 and regulate osteodifferentiation in osteoblasts. However, there was no study about the relationship between the expression of ClC-3 and osteodifferentiation after dynamic compression. In this study, we applied dynamic compression on MC3T3-E1 cells to detect the expression of ClC-3, runt-related transcription factor 2 (Runx2), bone morphogenic protein-2 (BMP-2), osteopontin (OPN), nuclear-associated ant

Background: Belly Dance, also known as Oriental Dance, is growing in popularity as a form of physical activity and health promotion. Characterised by torso-driven movement, this dance style engages the spine and pelvis through refined and controlled motion, relying heavily on musculoskeletal function. Objectives: This study aimed to examine the effects of static and dynamic stretching on spinal flexibility in dancers, focusing on four primary spinal movements: flexion, extension, rotation, and lateral flexion. Methods: Seventy-six participants were recruited and randomly assigned to one of thr

Multiple Instance Learning (MIL) has become the dominant paradigm for analyzing histopathology whole slide images (WSIs). However, the inherent spatial heterogeneity of WSIs poses a significant challenge to existing MIL methods. This heterogeneity, where morphologically similar tissue patches often exhibit multifocal distributions across the WSI, hinders the ability of current models to effectively capture long-range spatial dependencies and complex inter-tissue semantic associations. To mitigate these limitations, we propose DisCo, a novel Dispersion-to-Consolidation MIL framework that consol

BACKGROUND: Brain functional network abnormalities are reported in posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Most resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging studies have assumed that the functional networks remain static during the scans. How these might change dynamically in PTSD remains unclear.
METHODS: Resting-state functional magnetic resonance imaging data were collected from 71 noncomorbid, treatment-naïve patients with PTSD and 70 demographically matched, trauma-exposed non-PTSD control subjects. Network switching rate was used to characterize dynamic changes of individual restin

INTRODUCTION: Carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS) is a condition caused by chronic compression of the median nerve. The diagnosis is made mainly on the basis of clinical image and confirmed with electrodiagnostic testing (electromyography and nerve conduction study); however, these methods do not always aid in reaching the diagnosis of CTS. Moreover, they are invasive examinations, unpleasant for the patient and have to be performed by a qualified physician.
AIM: An evaluation of the usefulness of dynamic thermography in the diagnosis of CTS.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Forty patients were included in th

BACKGROUND: Treatment of septic long bone non-union remains a complex therapeutic problem. External stabilisation with Konzal's "R" fixator has been used in the Orthopaedic Department of CPME for years and allows for rigid stabilisation of bone fragments and good mutual alignment. Tried and tested in the treatment of osteitis, the fixator, however, offers limited possibilities for dynamisation and interfragmental compression. The following article presents a modernised design of Konzal's "R" with dynamic beams.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: The efficacy of dynamisation of the fixator with the moderni

Renal function measurements using (99m)Tc-DTPA and (99m)Tc-MAG(3) dynamic scintigraphs were compared to those obtained using (99m)Tc-DMSA static scintigraphy. Eighteen experimental rabbits were randomly divided into (99m)Tc-DTPA-, (99m)Tc-MAG(3)-, and (99m) Tc-DMSA-injected groups. Experimental unilateral renal damage was induced by ligating a unilateral right ureter in 18 rabbits. Scintigraphic images were obtained at 2 and 5 h after intravenous injection of (99m)Tc-DMSA, or immediately after administration of (99m)Tc-DTPA or (99m)Tc-MAG(3). For the dynamic images using (99m)Tc-DTPA and (99m)

UNLABELLED: Lateral epicondylitis (tennis elbow) is a common, often disabling ailment. Based on the failure of current therapies, a new dynamic extensor brace has been developed. In this study, the effects of application of this brace for 3 months on the most important and disabling symptoms of patients with lateral epicondylitis were assessed. After prestratification for the duration of complaints (ie, < or = 3 months and > or = 3 months), 63 patients initially were assigned randomly to 12 weeks of brace treatment (Group 1; n = 30) or no brace treatment (Group 2; n = 33). Outcome measures inc

Prognosis of inoperable or recurrent esophageal carcinoma is, at best, poor. Once an esophagotracheal fistula has developed, the overall condition of the patient declines rapidly. Aspiration pneumonia and severe coughing are common. The introduction of esophageal tubes does not always seal the fistula sufficiently and may compromise the airway causing stridor and dyspnea. In 30 patients (25 male, 5 female; age 23 to 74 years; mean, 56 years) with very large fistulas and airway problems, we inserted an airway stent (Dynamic) (n = 12) or an esophageal tube combined with a Dynamic airway stent (n
