In fifteen patients with hyperkalaemic familial periodic paralysis, inhalation of salbutamol alleviated hyperkaleamia and paralysis precipitated by exercise or oral administration of potassium chloride. In-vitro studies with rat soleus muscles indicated that the hypokalaemic effect of salbutamol is related to stimulation of the active coupled transport of sodium and potassium in muscle cells. Follow-up studies proved that the inhalation of salbutamol is a simple and adequate method for the treatment of the paralytic episodes in these patients.

Volunteers were exposed in a controlled environment chamber and concentrations of tetrachloroethylene in alveolar air were determined. Results show a proportional relationship between the level of exposure and the alveolar concentration curve. Accordingly, tetrachloroethylene breath decay curves can be used as a method to monitor time-weighted average exposures.

The inhalation toxicity of a commercial proteolytic enzyme preparation containing 12% subtilisin Carlsberg was studied in experimental animals. By means of a double-blind crossover study the effects of tyloxapol (Tacholiquin, Alevaire) and saline as carrier solutions for the inhalation of beta-agonists have been compared in 24 paitents with bronchial asthma.
