Maxillary sinus augmentation by the crestal core elevation technique.

BACKGROUND: The crestal core elevation (CCE) technique is reportedly a less invasive procedure than the lateral window elevation technique. We retrospectively evaluated long-term outcomes of CCE procedures over an 11-year time period. METHODS: Core preparations were made after extractions of 57 upper molars in 45 patients. Extraction sites were drilled with a calibrated trephine bur to an estimated distance of 1 mm from the sinus membrane. The trephined interradicular bone and underlying sinus membrane were imploded into the sinus. The surgical crater and residual extraction socket were fille

Bone regeneration in the maxillary sinus using an autologous fibrin-rich block with concentrated growth factors alone.

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the predictability of new bone formation in the maxillary sinus using an autologous fibrin-rich blocks with concentrated growth factors (CGFs) alone as an alternative to graft material. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of sixty-one sinus grafts were consecutively performed using the lateral window approach. After making replaceable bony window, the sinus membrane was elevated to make a new compartment. After 113 implants (average 13 mm high) with 11 different systems were placed simultaneously, the collected fibrin-rich blocks with CGFs alone w

Awareness on hematological malignancies among college students.

Cancers of blood arise when the abnormal blood cells undergo uncontrolled growth which outpaces the natural production of normal blood cells, interfering with the cells' normal functions. Leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma are the three types of blood cancers. The aim of our study is to assess and create awareness of hematological malignancies among college students. A questionnaire was prepared using Google Forms based on the awareness of the Hematological malignancies disinfection methods among dental students in Chennai. It was then circulated among a certain set of participants using an onlin

Relationship between Drug Holidays of Antiresorptive Agents and Surgical Outcomes in Cancer Patients with Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw.

It is controversial as to whether the withdrawal of antiresorptive (AR) agents is necessary while treating medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ). In this study, we investigated whether a drug holiday promoted sequestrum separation and improved the surgical outcomes of MRONJ patients with malignant tumors, who were undergoing high-dose AR therapy. In total, we included 103 MRONJ patients with malignant tumors as their primary disease who underwent surgery at Nagasaki University Hospital or Kansai Medical University Hospital from January 2009 to December 2020. We recorded the patie

Microsurgical Reconstruction of the Jaws Using Vascularised Free Flap Technique in Patients with Medication-Related Osteonecrosis: A Systematic Review.

BACKGROUND: Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) has been reported to be associated with patients receiving primarily bisphosphonate (BP) therapies. However, lately it has been documented that other medications, such as RANK ligand inhibitor (denosumab) and antiangiogenic drug, can cause ONJ. Micro-osseous-vascular reconstruction of the jaws in patients affected by medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw represents a viable option of treatment for patients affected by stage III of the disease. However, there are still considerable doubts about the success of this procedure in the short, medium,

Asia-Pacific consensus statement on medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw in patients with osteoporosis.

A unified consensus statement on medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) has not yet been established among the Asian member countries or regions of the Asian Federation of Osteoporosis Societies (AFOS). This study aimed to develop a consensus on MRONJ in patients with osteoporosis across these countries and regions. In this study, the term "Asia-Pacific" refers specifically to the Asian member countries and regions of AFOS. A structured survey consisting of nine MRONJ-related questions was distributed across 10 countries and regions to assess the level of agreement and summarize r

Prognostic factors for outcome of surgical treatment in medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw.

OBJECTIVES: The number of patients with medication-related osteonecrosis of the jaw (MRONJ) is increasing, but treatment remains controversial. Published papers and systematic reviews have suggested that surgical treatment is effective in patients with MRONJ. The purpose of this study was to determine whether preoperative University of Connecticut Osteonecrosis Numerical Scale (UCONNS), other serologic biomarkers, and size of necrosis are prognostic factors for outcome of surgical treatment in MRONJ. MATERIALS AND METHODS: From January 2008 to December 2016, 65 patients diagnosed with MRONJ a

Osteonecrosis of the Jaw and Antiresorptive Agents in Benign and Malignant Diseases: A Critical Review Organized by the ECTS.

CONTEXT: Antiresorptive therapy significantly reduces fracture risk in patients with benign bone disease and skeletal-related events (SREs) in patients with bone metastases (BM). Osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ) is a rare but severe condition manifested as necrotic bone lesion or lesions of the jaws. ONJ has been linked to the use of potent antiresorptive agents, termed medication-related ONJ (MRONJ). OBJECTIVE: We aimed to identify the differences various aspects of MRONJ among distinct patient categories and provide recommendations on how to mitigate the risk and optimally manage MRONJ in eac

From Osteoclast Differentiation to Osteonecrosis of the Jaw: Molecular and Clinical Insights.

Bone physiology relies on the delicate balance between resorption and formation of its tissue. Bone resorption depends on a process called osteoclastogenesis in which bone-resorbing cells, i.e., osteoclasts, are produced by the differentiation of more undifferentiated progenitors and precursors. This process is governed by two main factors, monocyte colony-stimulating factor (M-CSF) and receptor activator of NFκB ligand (RANKL). While the former exerts a proliferating effect on progenitors/precursors, the latter triggers a differentiation effect on more mature cells of the same lineage. Bone h
