BACKGROUND: Pulse oximetry has been suggested as a screening test for congenital heart disease (CHD) in asymptomatic newborns. However, most newborns in Mexico are discharged from the hospital without this evaluation.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate pulse oximetry as a screening test for critical congenital heart disease (CCHD) in term newborns.

Patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD) and renal transplant recipients (RTR) have increased cardiovascular risk. The value of measuring central pulse pressure (cPP) over brachial pulse pressure (pPP) is not known. Central PP was measured in 597 patients (364 CKD:233 RTR). Catatonia is a syndrome with prominent motor and behavioral symptoms commonly seen in acutely ill psychiatric patients. Catatonic symptoms have been considered as positive predictors of response to electroconvulsive therapy (ECT); however, few studies so far have addressed the role of ECT treatment technique in schizophrenia.
