Does genetic testing impact stigma in autism: A scoping review.

Public stigma is a society’s negative attitude toward a person or groups of people, self-stigma relates to the internalisation of these negative attitudes, and affiliate stigma is experienced by those associated with a stigmatised group. Both autism and genetic testing results can be stigmatised. This scoping review explored relationships between genetic testing and stigma in autism, to understand any perceived positive or negative effects. Embase Classic, and APA PsycINFO via Ovid databases were searched on May 30th, 2023, and updated January 9th, 2025. Included articles related to experience

Overview of organisational methods of primary cervical lesion screening programmes that use human papillomavirus testing.

Many factors need to be considered when planning and managing a screening programme for the early detection of cervical cancer (CC). A non-systematic international review of the organisation of CC screening using high-risk human papillomavirus (HPV-HR) testing, aimed at identifying the organisational methods of these programmes, was conducted with a view to supporting the future of the French system in the context of the transition to HPV-HR testing. In countries where HPV testing has been implemented or planned, the initial reflection process has provided an opportunity to rethink the previou

Integrated supervised consumption services and hepatitis C testing and treatment among people who inject drugs in Toronto, Canada: A cross-sectional analysis.

Despite the availability of publicly funded hepatitis C (HCV) treatment in Canada, treatment gaps persist, particularly among people who inject drugs. We estimate correlates of HCV care cascade engagement (testing, diagnosis, and treatment) among people who inject drugs in Toronto, Canada and examine the effect of accessing differing supervised consumption service (SCS) models on self-reported HCV testing and treatment. This is a cross-sectional baseline analysis of 701 people who inject drugs surveyed in the Toronto, Ontario integrated Supervised Injection Services (OiSIS-Toronto) study betwe

Experiences of veterans with spinal cord injury related to annual urine screening and antibiotic use for urinary tract infections.

INTRODUCTION: Antimicrobial-resistant bacterial infections are an increasing public health threat and people with spinal cord injury (SCI) are disproportionally at higher risk. National guidelines concerning urine testing after SCI are conflicting. Unnecessary urine testing in the SCI population (with high asymptomatic bacteriuria prevalence) leads to unnecessary antimicrobial use, propagating resistant infections, especially urinary tract infections (UTIs). OBJECTIVES: (a) Describe UTI antimicrobial adherence in patients with SCI. (b) Explore SCI patient knowledge and attitudes toward curren

Who fails to return within 30 days after being tested positive for HIV/STI in a free testing centre?

BACKGROUND: Some patients who test positive for sexually transmitted infections (STIs) fail to return for results and treatment. To target improvement actions, we need to find out who these patients are. This study aimed to explore factors associated with failure to return within 30 days (FTR30) after testing among patients with positive results in a free STI testing centre in Paris. METHODS: All patients with at least one positive result between October 2016 and May 2017 and who completed a self-administered questionnaire were included in this cross-sectional study (n = 214). High Proportion of Anorectal Chlamydia trachomatis and Neisseria gonorrhoeae After Routine Universal Urogenital and Anorectal Screening in Women Visiting the Sexually Transmitted Infection Clinic.

BACKGROUND.: Testing on indication of self-reported anal sex or symptoms is used to manage anorectal Chlamydia trachomatis (chlamydia) and Neisseria gonorrhoeae (gonorrhea) infections in women. Little is known about the impact of another testing strategy, routine universal anorectal screening with respect to chlamydia and gonorrhea prevalence and risk factors. METHODS.: All women (n = 1012) aged ≥16 years attending our sexually transmitted infection clinic in 2015 were offered routine universal screening. In total, 19.5% (n = 185) of women had an indication (reported anal sex or symptoms), 72

Comparison of DNA profiles from samples collected from underneath fingernails and hand deposits following everyday activity.

In instances of direct physical contact between individuals involved in criminal activity, body samples can provide significant and relevant information to aid in criminal investigations and court proceedings. Fingernails are one such forensically relevant body area that is capable of providing evidence of direct contact and potentially revealing whether the interaction involved was of a forceful kind. Several studies have investigated the prevalence of non-self DNA under fingernails after different crime-related scenarios; however, few have assessed the types of DNA profiles found after every

The detection of phenibut in keratinized specimens: a validation and case study.

Phenibut (β-phenyl-γ-butyric acid) is a central nervous system depressant that acts on the GABAB and, to some extent, the GABAA receptors. Phenibut is not approved for human use in the USA or throughout most of Europe due to its numerous adverse effects, such as intoxication, tachycardia, agitation, and confusion. A method to detect phenibut in hair and nail specimens using solid phase extraction followed by liquid chromatography tandem mass spectrometry was validated. This method was used to analyze a pair of hair and fingernail specimens from a self-reported user of phenibut. The assay valid

Racial differences in testing for infectious diseases: An analysis of jail intake data.

HIV and hepatitis C virus (HCV) testing for all people in jail is recommended by the CDC. In the community, there are barriers to HIV and HCV testing for minoritized people. We examined the relationship between race and infectious diseases (HIV, HCV, syphilis) testing in one Massachusetts jail, Middlesex House of Corrections (MHOC). This is a retrospective analysis of people incarcerated at MHOC who opted-in to infectious diseases testing between 2016-2020. Variables of interest were race/ethnicity, self-identified history of psychiatric illness, and ever having experienced restrictive housing

Accuracy of self-collection in human papillomavirus-based cervical screening: An evidence-based review.

BACKGROUND: As there is a large body of evidence confirming its accuracy, human papillomavirus (HPV) self-collection has been introduced to the Australian National Cervical Screening Program (NCSP). Self-collection also offers an opportunity to engage under-screened (including never‑screened) individuals. Under-screening remains a significant risk factor for cervical cancer, with over 70% of Australian cases involving individuals who are under‑screened or have never been screened. OBJECTIVE: This article provides an in-depth, evidence-based examination of the clinical accuracy of self-collect
