When immediately temporizing an implant, relining and cementation of the provisional can be a challenging, time-consuming, and contaminating procedure. Excess resin and cement need to be carefully removed from the fresh wound. This can be overcome by digitally backward planning the treatment with subsequent production of a surgical guide to be used by both the technician and the dentist. In this report, a patient with a fractured and hopeless central incisor and an apical radiolucency at his compromised (root-canal treated, post and core build-up) contralateral counterpart was treated using gu

Dens evaginatus is a developmental anomaly that can be defined as a tubercle from the surface of an affected tooth. It is composed of enamel and dentin usually enclosing pulp tissue. It is a rare dental anomaly commonly seen on premolars. A 12-year-old boy reported for the management of dental caries. He had bilateral occurrence of dens evaginatus on maxillary second premolars. The tubercle on the right side was unusually long without occlusal interference with the opposing primary mandibular second molar. Carious teeth were restored and the tubercle was left untreated. Management of dens evag

UNLABELLED: Anterior tooth fracture, as a result of traumatic injuries, frequently occurs in dentistry. Proper reconstruction of extensively damaged teeth can be achieved through the fragment reattachment procedure known as "Biological Restoration." This case report refers to the esthetics and functional recovery of extensively damaged central maxillary incisors through the preparation and adhesive cementation of "Biological Posts and Crowns" in a young patient. Both biological posts and crowns--post and dental fragment obtained through natural, extracted teeth from another individual--represe

An hopeless upper central incisor was subjected to forced eruption in order to improve and develop the implant site by distraction of the periodontal ligament-alveolar bone complex. The orthodontic extrusion was carried out with two aesthetic approaches: lingual orthodontics and a composite resin 2-2 veneer pontic. The first part of the extrusion was realized with lingual orthodontics alone, then, when the crown had been remodelled in its greatest part and the aesthetics was no more acceptable to the patient a composite resin 2-2 veneer pontic was bonded to the vestibular side of the other thr

We encountered the unusual complication of postoperative fracture of the lingual plate in four patients after bilateral sagittal split osteotomy. We then did a retrospective review to identify possible risk factors. Over a 1-year period we did 52 bilateral split osteotomies. The patients' casenotes were examined and a number of variables were recorded, including surgical technique, and the patient's sex, age, presence or absence of third molars, and the height of the mandible in the region of the osteotomy. Significant risk factors were a vertical mandibular height of 2 cm or less distal to th

Dentinogenesis Imperfecta (DI) is a rare genetic disorder characterized by dentin hypomineralisation. While DI is known to impair dentin's mechanical properties of the tissue and cause multiple tooth fractures, the microstructural origins of dentin fragility remain poorly understood. To address this gap,we conducted a pilot study comparing primary healthy dentin (n=4 - four incisors) and dentin affected by DI associated with a COL1A2 variant (DI type I, n=4 - two canines and two molars) using thermogravimetry and backscattered electron scanning microscopy to quantify mineralization at macrosca…

Dentists request a discontinuation of antiresorptive agents, such as bisphosphonate, before and after tooth extractions to prevent osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ). However, little is known about how this affects ONJ and osteoporosis treatment and how medical professionals and dentists cooperate to treat ONJ in patients with osteoporosis. This study aimed to clarify the impact of ONJ on osteoporosis treatment in Japan. A structured questionnaire including 14 key clinical queries was sent to 488 medical professionals as part of the Japanese Osteoporosis Intervention Trial (JOINT)-04, and 206 resp

This article presents a rare case of a young adult with multiple talon cusps on maxillary anterior teeth, dens evaginatus on maxillary second premolars, and hypodontia of the mandibular second premolar. These anomalies can cause occlusal interference, caries, fractures leading to pulp exposure, and esthetic concerns. Management options include gradual cusp reduction, composite resin coverage, pulpotomy, apexification, root canal therapy, or no treatment when asymptomatic. A 20-year-old male patient presented with pain in the left mandibular wisdom tooth. Examination revealed talon cusps on all

Twenty-one cases of Gorham's disease in the maxillofacial region are described in the literature. This case is an additional one. The disease has a slight male predominance. All cases involved either the mandible alone or in association with the maxilla or other bones of the head and neck. The most common symptoms were pain, tooth mobility, mandibular pathological fractures, and facial deformity. The mean duration of symptoms prior to diagnosis was 6.4 years. Treatment included surgery, radiotherapy, and various medications, alone or combined. Four patients died of their disease. The diagnosis

BACKGROUND: A variety of non-metal prefabricated posts, including fiber posts, can be used as an alternative to metal posts due to their numerous feasible characteristics. Further research is necessary to assess physical and mechanical properties of restorations supported by intracanal posts in primary teeth.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of the study was to compare fracture resistance of maxillary central incisors that were extensively restored with glass fiber and composite posts.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: A total of 40 primary maxillary central incisors were randomly divided into 4 equal groups. Group

This study evaluated the fracture resistance of endodontically treated maxillary premolars restored with a new self-adhesive composite hybrid material (Surefil one [SO]) using different protocols. A total of 72 maxillary premolars were divided into 6 groups (n = 12). The control group included intact teeth, and the other 5 groups included teeth in which disto-occlusal cavities were prepared and endodontic treatment was performed. The prepared cavities were assigned to groups that were based on the restorative procedures: bulk-fill group, universal adhesive plus conventional bulk-fill composite
