Cervical wear and occlusal wear from a periodontal perspective.

The aim of this study was to investigate whether cervical wear was associated with occlusal wear and clinical periodontal parameters in relatively older adults. A total of 30 patients, with multiple non-carious cervical lesions (NCCLs) and without a disease or condition that could cause heavy tooth wear, were included in the study. The periodontal parameters including plaque index, probing pocket depth, gingival recession (GR) and tooth mobility were obtained from 641 teeth of which 475 (74·1%) displayed NCCLs. The levels of cervical wear and occlusal wear were determined according to a tooth

The effect of fluorides and caries in primary teeth on permanent tooth emergence.

This study addressed two questions: (i) is there an effect of exposure to fluorides on the timing of emergence of permanent teeth? and (ii) can a difference in timing of tooth emergence be explained by the impact of fluorides on the caries experience of the predecessors? Data were obtained from a long-term follow-up study of the oral health condition in a sample of 4468 Flemish children. Survival analyses with log-logistic distribution were performed to calculate median emergence ages and 95% confidence intervals; four fluoride exposure parameters (fluorosis, use of systemic fluoride supplemen

The extent of oral fungal flora in 353 students and possible relationships with dental caries.

An epidemiological study was conducted on 353 students to determine the potential relationships between oral saprophytism with Candida albicans and dental status. For each student included, an interview, a dental examination, a mycological investigation and determination of oral pH were conducted. Various factors liable to affect the presence of oral fungus were investigated using the chi(2) test. 58.6% of samples were positive when cultured, with C. albicans in 93.7% of cases. The mean DMF index was 7.6. C. albicans was more frequently isolated in men, smokers, when pH was lower than 7, when
