Topical treatment with tacrolimus is more effective than the placebo and the low potency corticosteroids in the treatment of atopic dermatitis (AD) in both adults and children while it has a similar potency as some topical corticosteroids of medium potency. Diaper dermatitis is one of the most common skin disorders in infants. The humid, moist environment under the diaper makes the skin more susceptible to injury from exposure to irritants particularly related to urine and feces. A gentle cleansing routine, frequent diaper changes, and a thick barrier cream help control this condition. Irritant diaper dermatitis should be distinguished from other skin conditions that may develop in this sensitive area.

Contact dermatitis from lacquer has been documented. The causative agent is a resin from a lacquer tree that can induce either irritation or sensitization. Thai and Japanese lacquer trees are 2 distinct species but are both members of the Anacardiaceae family. We report 3 cases of contact dermatitis from Thai lacquer resin. Observation and study of the lacquer plantation and working process at the factory were made to elucidate the aetiology of the dermatitis.

A striped skunk (Mephitis mephitis) from Kansas (USA) with severe diffuse dermatitis characterized by extensive alopecic areas, thickened skin, and multiple, scattered cutaneous abscesses on the dorsal aspect of the head, neck, and trunk was submitted for diagnostic evaluation. An outbreak of digital dermatitis in a dairy herd in the Gauteng province of South Africa is described in which 72% of the lactating herd was affected.
