Establishment and application of TSDPSO-SVM model combined with multi-dimensional feature fusion method in the identification of fracture-related infection.

Fracture-related infection (FRI) is one of the most common and intractable complications in orthopedic trauma surgery. This complication can impose severe psychological burdens and socio-economic impacts on patients. Although the definition of FRI has been proposed recently by an expert group, the diagnostic criteria for FRI are not yet standardized. A total of 4761 FRI patients and 4761 fracture patients (Non-FRI) were included in the study. The feature set of patients included imaging characteristics, demographic information, clinical symptoms, microbiological findings, and serum inflammator

Prediction of detailed blood metabolic profile using milk infrared spectra and machine learning methods in dairy cattle.

The adoption of preventive management decisions is crucial to dealing with metabolic impairments in dairy cattle. Various serum metabolites are known to be useful indicators of the health status of cows. In this study, we used milk Fourier-transform mid-infrared (FTIR) spectra and various machine learning (ML) algorithms to develop prediction equations for a panel of 29 blood metabolites, including those related to energy metabolism, liver function/hepatic damage, oxidative stress, inflammation/innate immunity, and minerals. For most traits, the data set comprised observations from 1,204 Holst

Cellular Aging Signatures in the Plasma Proteome Record Human Health and Disease.

Aging is asynchronous across cells and organs, but whether plasma proteins can capture cell type-specific aging and predict disease and mortality remains unknown. We developed machine learning models to estimate the biological age of more than 40 distinct cell types-spanning neuronal, immune, glial, endocrine, epithelial, and musculoskeletal origins-using over 7,000 plasma proteins measured in 60,000 individuals across three cohorts, comprising the largest human plasma proteomics aging study to date. Individuals showed heterogeneous aging profiles, with 20-25% exhibiting accelerated aging in a

Prediction of Extubation readiness in extremely preterm infants by the automated analysis of cardiorespiratory behavior: study protocol.

BACKGROUND: Extremely preterm infants (≤ 28 weeks gestation) commonly require endotracheal intubation and mechanical ventilation (MV) to maintain adequate oxygenation and gas exchange. Given that MV is independently associated with important adverse outcomes, efforts should be made to limit its duration. However, current methods for determining extubation readiness are inaccurate and a significant number of infants fail extubation and require reintubation, an intervention that may be associated with increased morbidities. A variety of objective measures have been proposed to better define the

Developing Scenario-Based Strategies for Health, Climate, and Environmental Preparedness: The One Health, One Earth Approach.

Climate change amplifies many threats to human health. Despite advances in understanding climate change dynamics and impacts, there remains a critical gap in translating scientific knowledge into equitable, and community-driven health interventions. The inaugural One Earth, One Health workshop sought to explore this gap through human-centered design exercises involving interdisciplinary researchers from climate and Earth sciences, engineering, epidemiology, microbiology, and environmental health. Although participants did not co-develop solutions with affected communities, they used stakeholde

Psoas muscle CT radiomics-based machine learning models to predict response to infliximab in patients with Crohn's disease.

BACKGROUND: Crohn's disease (CD) is a chronic inflammatory bowel disease, with infliximab (IFX) commonly used for treatment. However, no clinically applicable model currently exists to predict the response of patients with CD to IFX therapy. Given the strong association between sarcopenia and IFX treatment outcomes, this study developed computerized tomography radiomics-based machine learning (ML) models, utilizing psoas muscle volume as a proxy for skeletal muscle mass, to predict the response of patients with CD to IFX therapy. METHODS: In this retrospective study, patients with CD from two

Predicting Bioconcentration Factors and Concentrations of Per- and Polyfluoroalkyl Substances in Plants with Machine Learning.

Bioconcentration factors (BCF) and concentrations of per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in crops were predicted by four machine learning models using a newly compiled data set composed of 11 crops, 11 plant tissue compartments, and 21 PFAS, as well as diverse soil properties and cultivation conditions. The eXtreme Gradient Boosting (XGBoost) achieved the best performance, with a coefficient of determination (R2) of 0.951 for Log BCF and 0.943 for Log C. Feature importance analysis showed that soil pH and PFAS carbon chain length are key predictors of BCF. Soil PFAS concentration is the

A Multiobjective Evolutionary Algorithm Based on Bipopulation With Uniform Sampling for Neural Architecture Search.

Neural architecture search (NAS) automates neural network design, improving efficiency over manual approaches. However, efficiently discovering high-performance neural network architectures that simultaneously optimize multiple objectives remains a significant challenge in NAS. Existing methods often suffer from limited population diversity and inadequate exploration of the search space, particularly in regions with extreme complexity values. To address these challenges, we propose a multiobjective evolutionary algorithm (MOEA)-BUS, an innovative MOEA based on bipopulation with uniform samplin

Exploring Toxicological Mechanisms of Typical PFAS-Induced NAFLD through Integrated Computational Toxicology and AOP Frameworks.

As a typical endocrine disruptor, per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFASs) are closely associated with the onset and progression of non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). However, research on the specific mechanism remains extremely limited. In this study, a multi-methodological framework integrating network toxicology, machine learning, and molecular docking was adopted to explore the potential toxicity and molecular mechanisms of PFAS-induced NAFLD. Key molecular targets were identified by integrating transcriptomic data with toxicological databases such as CTD, ToxCast, and GeneCards

Ensemble learning-based prediction of the backbone curve for corroded reinforced concrete columns using experimental database.

Corrosion significantly degrades the seismic performance of reinforced concrete (RC) columns, yet assessment methods often rely on idealized backbone models or datasets with limited diversity, which reduces general applicability. This study develops a data-driven framework to predict the full-range backbone response of corroded RC columns under cyclic loading. An experimental database of 200 specimens is compiled from international peer-reviewed literature, covering broad ranges of geometry, reinforcement detailing, material properties, axial load level, corrosion severity, and failure mode.
